You can have a female avatar in this game. You can even have a Lizardman for your avatar!!! I just realized you can do this quite easily (I played Taisen mode exclusively so I never noticed after beating the game). Anyway, the new avatars unlock after you beat the game. When you load up your save there will be a new option "From the Beginning". If you chose it you choose your starting book and then create your avatar. You can choose a female human, a cat (can be made male/female with hairstyles), a bird creature (looks like the male model with a chocobo like head), a rock creature (male body with a Thing-like head), and a demon (male body with demon head). The only downside is that by doing so you lose all of your story mode data, ie, you are starting the story over and can't choose to play various other maps in story mode until you beat them again (so if you wanted to fight Najaran you'd have to beat the game again or just fight her in Taisen mode if you've beaten her already. Maybe the US version will add the Lizardman type that the article mentions.

I'd also like to add that although you lose your story mode save, you just lose the ability to travel back to those places while in story mode. You still maintain all of your card collection and avatar parts earned previously. All your books save and the book you choose at the beginning is simply the book you begin with when the game starts.
Lizardman, I'll have to check the pictures and see if it's a Lizard man or Golem (Rock) man. He might be taken as a lizard at the wrong angle. Otherwise, that would be a nice addition. Perhaps they'll add it on the market place for the Japanese version if it's already going to be included with the US game.

TopCat and Kuroi, thanks for sharing this information with the rest of us. Do all of these heads use the default male body? If so can you equip armor and weapons as you normally would? I can't wait to customize my avatar, books, and book covers. Here is a link to a deck builder that contains images of all of the cards. www.freewebtown.com/peorth2000/Culdcept_Saga/

Each character does have a different body set. The Bird men can customize their "hair", feather color/beak color. Rock men can add thicker rock-brows/facial mods as well as change rock color. Demons can do something similar with their looks and skin colors. Cat people can customize hair/hair color/fur color (white or tan). The women have a female form with customizable hairstyles, hair color, and skin color (pale or tan). If I remember, most of these races have one outfit to choose when creating but they are much cooler than the main avatar. To answer your question about parts: Yes, you keep all your items, cards, book covers. . everything. It can all be used on your new character. Basically you're deleting your avatar and that is it. Story mode and only story mode restarts, but you have everything. Thanks for the book creation page. Now I can mess with deck ideas at work instead of waiting to get home.

Thanks a bunch for the update, again. I definitely like the new stuff. I'm going to continue to purchase everything since I'm a sucker for down-loadable content and want to support the company. Hopefully it will encourage more and more content.

Shame we will no longer be able to download foreign content when the Spring Update hits tomorrow. MS is enforcing their regional licenses and locking all marketplace content down to locals only. No more free Culdcept Saga items if all goes well for MS.
Shame that Adam just bought a japanese point card, too.

Yeah, it's a shame. Thankfully I, in the least, got all the current items on the marketplace. I used the rest of the points to pickup some Arcade Games and Japanese content for some of my other games.
Get it while you can folks outside Japan!

It is most likely accurate information. They keep pushing this game back. But with a $39.99 price tag it's really a great deal. Maybe they are trying to improve on the translation script since the PS2 version was so very. . . off.

Well, I was wrong in my earlier post. I'm not sure if maybe premium US content really got the lock down, but I had no issues dl'ing free japanese content. So it looks like we'll still be able to keep up to date with the items.
