Hello - I noticed there weren't a lot of players here with Saga just yet, so I thought I might just keep one journal-like thread and update it with little snippets of discoveries so far in the game. Some spoilers may exist, and it may just be random babbling, but at least it will all be in one thread. >< Feel free to respond or ask questions! Culcept Saga so far: I've had Culdcept Saga for a few days now, and overall I'm very pleased. By chance it seems as if they've gotten rid of some of my least favorite art (giant amoeba, giant rat), while holding on to some of the ones we've grown accustomed to (minotaur, dwarf). The cards which were less popular have either had costs reduced, or abilities merged. Also, it seems that defensive cards have gotten quite a bit of a boost. A couple nifty cards I've managed to acquire: Hunter's Song (R spell): 10 cost, for 4 rounds each time the enchanted Cepter kills another creature in combat, the Cepter receives 200gp. This spell vs a suicidal AI can net quite a bit of money, and be pretty hilarious. Doom Needle(R Item): 50 cost, +20 STR, casts Senility(enchantment that causes instant death if creature survives(happens next battle)) on opponent if they survive. Loved Senility in the previous game, but the cost was sometimes prohibitive. Just a beautiful item. The Possessed (R Artifact Creature): 50 cost 10str/10mhp Territory[80]: Sacrifice this creature and gain control of an opponent's creature on a level 1 land. Surprise!A couple of cards used against me: A yellow creature that cast Simulucrum on itself when placed. (-_- A green snaillike creature that was able to use a territory Holyword 1 immediately when placed. (-_- A number of chain-cast spells which left me wondering where my creatures and hand went. XD Great game so far - I'll keep you update on things I find! ></ tangerinewindex~

Thanks for the insight. So far from what we've seen on card lists, everything is looking to be very promising. I wonder how much time I'm going to play the single player before venturing into a Multiplayer scenario and actually stand a chance.
Oh, I just thought up a question. What do you have to do to unlock equipment for your "avatar"? Do you earn 1 piece along with your cards each win and lose, or do you have to go through story mode. Is it all random? Anything you know would be great info. Thanks.

Basically instead of getting a medal of the Sands, you might get a leather helmet. etc. You start off wearing a pretty plain cloth outfit, and you can get avatar parts for the head, body, and both hands. For the hand pieces, once you unlock a weapon or a shield, you can choose to dual-wield the items as well, which add for some pretty cool combinations (x2 Claymore etc) and some pretty strange ones as well (x2 buckler) I've only unlocked the more mundane objectives (toll related etc), but I'll try to come up with a list when I'm back at home..

I imagine both Kuroi and myself will be dressed in fairly standard looking bronze armor. I really want that red-eyed mummy head I saw in a video.
So do you mean that you're getting avatar equipment from completing the standard achievments?

Great idea for a thread, thanks!
Have you encountered any of the bugs?
Just a quick question that my girlfriend (she plays too) has been bothering me to have answered: Can you choose to make your avatar female?

Thanks tangerinewindex I'm pumped even more about the avatar equipment now. Especially if it's like medals. So now I have achievements and equipment to obtain! I think I'm going to be obscure (after being Bronzed up for a bit of course, Topcat ), maybe a mummy masked, double-buckler'd, swarthy individual. Haha - Or not. I have a feeling lots more people are going to start flocking here as they get Saga.

So do you mean that you're getting avatar equipment from completing the standard achievments? Yeah, when I get home tonight I'll confirm a list of the items I have so far and the requirements I met. Have you encountered any of the bugs? Just a quick question that my girlfriend (she plays too) has been bothering me to have answered: Can you choose to make your avatar female? Haven't run into any bugs yet, but I've only played about 15 games of story/versus CPU so far. Character creation gave me 6 or so selections of a face, and I think you might have been able to do something with hair color. Not sure on the gender issue. To be honest, I picked up Tenchu Senran at the same time, so I think I might be confusing the two. Let me check that tonight, and I'll get back to you. maybe a mummy masked, double-buckler'd, swarthy individual. And we shall fear you. (

Little recap of last night...
Played a few short skirmishes in versus with CPU to try and get some more cards. I know with Culdcept 2 there was a Japanese source that did stats from different maps, and they confirmed the drop rates being higher on certain maps for different sorts of cards. I think it's a little early at this point, but I'm also just trying to replace some of my generic stuff.
I'm leaning a little more in the G/Y colors with a splash of this and that - mostly based on my initial card stock. I have some decent support cards, a couple stone walls, mummies, zombie dragons - and G defense is looking pretty good. On the Y side I picked up a Nike (FS/Paralysis), a gremlin, and a knight - which have been pretty solid creatures in the past.
Because of the way Magma (G/R creature bonuses) and Storm (B/Y creature bonuses) items are, I would probably be better off leaning with a pair of those, but my cards just aren't allowing for it yet.
Some cards of mention I picked up:
Old Stuff: Bogart, Gaseous Form, Yeti (sweet new art), and first Kelpie! Kelpie art got a major art overhaul, and now looks like the evil creature that's going to gank you for your means every lap. ><
Got a second and third Wolverine (30str/40hp G Creature. Can upgrade land immediately after placed. Collects 1.5x toll).
Got an ancient sea dragon (50/60hp B Creature. FS - does a scroll attack equal to strength when no items are used. Little costly, but if you could waive the double Blue requirement, it's a beast.
Also got a hilarious item, Abyssal Tome - (10gp cost. At the start of combat, turns opponent into statue. At the end of combat, turns the user's creature into a statue.)
Things of note used against me:
Annoying blue mosquito creature that makes you discard when you take damage from it.
More of the Mirage 30/30 self cast simulacrum when placed.
A really bizzaire 50/60 yellow creature that casts Senility?!? on itself when placed. I guess for 90+Y it's a good buy, but you'd better get that boy moving soon. ><
Been having some good luck with the rolls and all, but I'm sure that will be changing shortly... (-_-
Hope to get some good playtime during the weekend - tangerinewindex out. ></

About the gender issue... so far all the base body forms are male (I think cause the avatar you use is used in story mode and is male). Also, am really interested in the conditions to win clothing! If possible would be cool to be spoiler free... meaning just the condition without the listing of which item... I have earned a few hints to unlocking clothing (happens when you almost unlock it but fall short for one reason or another) but they are so vague... tangerinewindex will look you up when I get home, but time difference maybe an issue!

Just a quick question that my girlfriend (she plays too) has been bothering me to have answered: Can you choose to make your avatar female? Yeah, so to confirm the Cepter needs to be male. Two different skin tones, 5 face types, and 7 or so hair colors. Spoil free, some of the avatar clothing conditions I managed to meet were: Win a game without paying toll Have creature with 200+ hp Win a game with only N creatures Beat xxx chapter in Story mode. So for the most part, it seems pretty standard to what we've come to see from Culdcept2. Started running into the Shadow/Holy Shrines on some of the maps, and some really neat dual-color creatures also. Also as seen on some of the videos, I've started running into the switch maps, where you step on a switch to rotate/change map pieces. In addition, there appears to be two kinds of teleport pads. One which teleports you when you end your turn on them, and one that teleports if you step on them during movement. Hooked up with Topcat, and sent Kuroi an invite - maybe we'll start getting some vs games going soon. =)

Just lost an amazing game with Toad that went 95 rounds and ended with timeout.
Toad had a phenomenal start stealing my money gaining cantrip card, and using an E card called Marvel (read 60 damage scroll attacking creature) for huge control over the first 30 rounds.
Gaining a good amount of blue land, Toad took control of some key hall space with giagantic Undine and Cyclone.
I started regaining control in the mid game with an island fish who gains a str/hp bonues equal to the round number. Moving it around and taking over Toad's other blue territories, I went in for the kill on his main Undine. The Undine however had a "fistfight" enchantment which I assumed limited item use. However, it ended up being that it also stifled creature abilities.
I bounced on the attack and was forced to sell off all of my land in bankruptcy, and Toad passed the 10k mark and only needed to pass the castle.
With toad poised for the win, I suicide attacked one of his level 5 ice walls with the same island fish. At 116 str (fish) vs 120 hp (wall), I bounced again, and was bankrupt.
In an absolute miracle, the following round I took a level 5 forest from him using a 110str support combination, and then landed on the previous ice wall and finished it off with the same island fish.
Toad had been hording a siginificant amount of cash, and I used the improve E mana drain (drains 50% mana) to steal roughly 1800gp.
In a flash, the tables had somewhat turned, and there were only 6 rounds left in the game. I rushed to replace my island fish and attack another one of his level 5 lands, and toad was forced to holy world 0 himself to avoid running into his recently stolen lands.
On the final round of the game, a 6 would have landed me on a level 5 griffon land which the fish could take, rolling an 8 would have landed me on a level 5 cyclone with fistfight (to which my fish didn't get a bonus).
I rolled an 8 and lost. ><
Hard to put into words, but absolutely epic game. Great game toad!
Fistfight and Marvel (innate 60 str scroll attack creature??) were unbelievable, but I'm looking forward to going against them again.

What an amazing recap! It makes me excited to read and I was there! It was a truly amazing game and it was a nailbiter the whole time. The Marvel is truly wicked and fistfight is a naughty enchantment (however I forgot and it was supressing undine's HP gain so was chotto vunerable all that time). Thanks for that great game!

Thanks for the message tangerine. I cracked open Culdcept this weekend but did not get a chance to get anywhere but halfway into the first cepter duel. I will be glad to play with you and toad, but I will most likely hoard some cards first. As any Culdcept vet [ie. everyone on these boards ] would know a 'starter deck' won't stand much a chance against someone who's gotten some goodies. In a few days I'll be ready to at least mess around. That sounds like you guys had a great battle! I do, however, have a question about Marvel. I heard it was a pre-order bonus. I did pre-order Culdcept Saga and got all my extras. Is there something I have to do to receive marvel, or have I been under a large misconception? Looking forward to getting games on with everyone.
