Aww yeah, I rocked out that starter book. I manged to get several wins with it before I quit to earning cards. Got the ol' blood boiling so I was forced to renig on my not getting involved. I have, however, secured about 70% of all uniques in several hours so I should be good for recreating my japanese books and hopping back into competition soon. ^_^ This isn't exactly the best thread in which to ask this question, but TopCat, what do you mean when you say that you "quit to earning cards"? I've taken about an hour apiece to get through each of the first three levels in Story Mode. Is there some other mode of gameplay that you're playing? Sorry if this is a stupid question.....

maybe he just kept replaying the past stages instead of progressing on in the story. Ive played collesium III about 9 times and unlock 12 cards every win.

I basically created a character in story, quit the first mission, then played Versus mode to earn cards. I used the map data from the wiki coupled with Tank's perfect card earning guide. Using those two I've gotten about 360 out of 482 uniques and have managed to reconstruct about 75% of all my japanese books in roughly 6 hours. The only downside is that having not played any story I have to flop between Colossuem 2 and 3 to earn from each card type and I'm only getting 11 (6/3/2) and 12 (6/4/2) cards, respectively. However, I can guarantee that I get any cards I need multiples of through card capture.

In a month or so I will most likely be traveling to the US Version as well. I want to crush every ounce of DMC4 first as well as take my time with life (ie. friends, piano, guitar). So I'll be following Topcat into the US ranks soon.
Thanks for the update on card earning. That means there is easy enough hope for the "transfer".

I noticed that the card earning guide seems to suggest using a win-limit of 5000. Why is this? I have been earning cards in games with 1000 as the win limit, and it goes much faster. The only explanation I can think of is that this is due to a difference in versions. Does the Japanese version have a minimum win limit of 5000? The US version allows you to set it to a very convenient and speedy 1000...

Your suggestion is right that minimum win limit is 5,000 in the Japanese version.

Thanks again to all the veterans who are helping us out with this game.
I have been using the above method to gather cards with a lot of success but noticed that Top Cat uses another source for help, some kind of matrix which shows which maps put out which types of cards.
As I have only played through the Colosseum levels in the story, I too am bouncing back and forth between Colosseum II and III. I am taking Top Cats word for it that this will cover all or most of the cards available to capture. I understand E cards must be obtained through other methods.
The link that Top Cat mentioned shows just ???s instead of text for most things. That said, I can't get anything useful from it.
Bottom line, If I keep playing Colosseum II and III, do I have a chance of getting:
Tengu Frost Beast Ground Gear Beast Gear Stymphalides
Thanks again.

Topcat summed it up in another forum:
"I had all of the E-card conditions posted on my card FAQ but I took them away because they were too long. Here they are. Oh, keep in mind this is from memory so I may have mixed up some names.
Zeromn: Obtain all cards Terrair: Obtain all Yellow creatures Iksear: Obtain all Blue creatures. Selenear: Obtain all Green creatures. Bistair: Obtain all Red creatures. Nil: Replay the stage where you first fight the new Rilara. Lala City, I think. Leoknight: Replay the stage where you fight the double-headed snake. Culdra Blade: Replay the last stage (I'm almost certain).
Characters:
Goligan: Replay the snow stage where you fought the chick with the butt and the scythe. I think you also fight the hermit there.
Najaran: Replay the stage that is an inner square and an outer square. I think it's called Zanadol or something like that.
Zenith: Replay the stage with the five square areas though the whole map is considered one area. I can't ever remember the name of this stage but the description should make it easy."
Hope that helps. It's been over a year since we earned the E cards, so please forgive any mistakes in memory.

Though on one of the japanese downloadable maps, I had it down to 5 minutes for one map easily, Topcat said he's almost got it down to 2-3minutes with the new magic limit. I'm not sure if any maps are up for download on the US Marketplace, but there is one that is great for earning cards. It's small, and you almost get the highest amount of cards just short of the final stage.

If you set up games with 3 vs 1, you start with 750 mana on your team, which means it's pretty easy to get over 1000 in a single round (set down a quick chain/pass a fort with each). I loaded up decks with cheap monsters, haste/holy word 6/8, and best of all--word of recall. Add a few winds of hope, prophecy, gift, and reincarnation spells thrown in for good measure, and you can win very very quickly. Zip around as fast as you can, or word of recall as soon as you can and you're done.

The map data seems to be in Nihongo... What are the best maps to earn cards on? I have been using Coliseum III, Santana, and the X map but I would love to improve efficiency if I can... I am getting tired of grinding cards. I am near the 1000 mark but I am still missing quite a few and of course they are the ones I would really like. Also, I have been doing quick 1 on 1 VS a very stupid AI with a deck full of items. Im using a very cheap full creature deck (0-30G cost). Map pending I usually win within 1 to 5 minutes. Do you think this is inferior to other methods? Thanks and hello!

The map data is in japanese as pirateydan mentioned. Playing Colosseum 2 and 3 you can get any card that isnt' a dual-element creature or multiple instant spell. Until the DLC hits the 12th story map is the first map that gives dual creatures. The 5th story map is the first that gives multiple instant spells. pirateydan: I highly suggest you follow Tank's guide. In particular, you should be using only Colossuem 2 and 3 as maps this early since Santan and X give fewer cards and thus only give you 1 rare as a win bonus. You should also be playing against a dummy cepter if possible so that you can steal his cards (this makes it easier to get multiples of cards of your choosing). Set to 1000G you can earn cards every 2 -3 minutes. That part worried me though ... What? I said the names may be mixed up and never implied that the conditions were dubious.

Topcat:
The specification, "Whenever you win three straight victories, you can obtain a certainly new card.", exist in the Japanese version.
Does this specification exist also the U.S. version? If it exist, you can get dual-element creatures and multiple instant spells at Santana Village!
That is why "Santana Village is OK" I wrote !!!!
