Note to Disgaea fans: According to information from Mastiff Customer Service (as posted over on GameFAQs), La Pucelle: Tactics (another game from Nippon Ichi Software) is scheduled for an "early May" release. Anyone have an interest in this game? Game information can be found here: - www.mastiff-games.com/lapucelle/lapucelle.html

I'm probably getting it, seeing that I loved Disgaea. I'm waiting here about the official U.S. release date of Phantom Brave though.
La Pucelle is considered to be Disgaea's prequel, while Phantom Brave, recently released in Japan is considered the sequel. I don't think there stories are related though.

Thanks for mentioning Phantom Brave, and explaining it a bit. I saw it mentioned a time or two over on GameFAQs, but I didn't know what it was.
OK - So Phantom Brave was released in Japan in January 2004. Doesn't that mean that it will be quite a while before it sees the shelves here in North America? Isn't it assumed that these titles require a good year or two to work on the English translation?

I haven't heard anything concrete, but it sounds like Phantom Brave will come to North America. It may take a while but I don't think it will take over a year.

Translation turn around time is 6 to 8 months, from what I know. La Pucelle: Tactics seems to play more like Arc the Lad, with a Nipon Itchi(sp?) twist. First of April is the release from what I know. And for me it is a must have ;D, I love strategy games and they are few.

La Pucelle: Tactics... First of April is the release from what I know. I thought the same thing, Cham. I read posts indicating that April 1 was the date, supported by a search or two on a Game Sales website. However, I also read a post that supposedly came from the Customer Service department of the company releasing the game (Mastiff) indicating that the game would appear on store shelves in early May.

Egm has a review of it and they gave it a silver rating with scores of 7.5, 8.5 and 8.0. Very postive review...basically they said it was just as good as disgaea if not better

I guess that means that I'd better reserve some time for it, if it's about as good as Disgaea...
On Thursday the 29th, my GameStop.com order for the La Pucelle strategy guide changed from a "Pre-Release ETA" status to "Usually ships in 24 hours" one...

That's good to hear! I ordered mine from GameStop.com, and although I've received a shipping confirmation, I'm not expecting delivery until Monday.
That's OK though, because the wife and I are in the process this weekend of working toward packing up our house's contents for a move. Although I'm filling boxes in Texas this weekend, all of my gaming equipment is currently in Minnesota, which is where my copy of La Pucelle: Tactics will be delivered next week....

We'll after putting 20 hours into it so far I have a few points...
First of all its very different from Disagea, battles are slow paced due to the side view screen after attacks, the "flow" gimmick at first is very confusing, finally not as deep as Disagea "at first".
Basically, it took me untill after the first five chapters to really get going and to get my characters equiped and rdy to grind out some real lvls. I must admit I havent read a guide book this much in a long time. Getting your right group of monsters is very key and I would reccomend that you decide on this group before the 6th chapter.
After you get to around lvl 15+ the game completely opens up and you start getting better monsters and gear. The dark world which is this games version of the item world is so hard I hear..... that I'm not hitting it till im around 25+
But the biggest difference so far is the story...its more of a epic story with braching parts that give you different chapter endings. I have gotten a few bad endings cause I didnt want to spoil the story by reading the guide on endings.
All in all its a hell of a game, but it makes you appreciate Disgaea that much more because it seems that they took every aspect of La Pucelle and improved and streamlined it. Both will be getting my fair share of play...I just hit lvl 575 in Disgaea and I'm rolling now.

I've got the game last weekend and I'm clocking over ten hours already. The Dark Portal thing is better than Geo Panels in my opinion because you know exactly what you have to do to pull off a miracle and get good bonuses when in Disgaea it could take forever or be impossible to set off a level 9 chain reation.
Garek, if you have anything you want ask anything about this game let me know. I'm still a newbie at it myself but I can answer many of the basic questions.

Due to various things going on in my life right now (not the least of which is my having started working at a new job across the country from my primary residence), I still haven't had a chance to get at it yet. Maybe, with a bit of luck, I'll be able to begin on it this weekend....
