Opal Idol = Everyone regenerates at the end of every battle.
Corrosive Knife = At end of battle, death to opponent who regenerated.
Pretty straightforward, and pretty deadly. The attacking creature merely needs to survive the battle (without losing the item) in order to win the land. So the combo should be incredibly useful against enemies with low ST and near-infinite HP, and a good answer to gaseous form, diamond armor, and shields that neutralize things.
The combo is vulnerable to item theft/destruction, and enemies with high strength. So what are the best creatures to abuse this combo with?
Nike or Succubus - prevent / lessen counterattack
Gremlin - destroys enemy item (if enemy's base ST isn't a concern)
Archbishop - prevents item theft/destr (if that's the biggest threat)
Vampire or Crimson Vine - initial attack buffs own HP
Centaur - recycles that precious Corrosive Knife
There are also a ton of creatures that neutralize or reflect different types of attacks, based on element or ST/HP stats. Pick the right neutralizing creature for the job at hand and you really can't lose unless the enemy uses a scroll or gremlin item on defense.
How about spells or territory abilities that could enhance or protect this combo?
Cramp - ST-20 to all creatures
Debility - ST0 to target creature
Tough Song - for offense
Mesozoic Song? - for offense?
Sinking Song - cast on defense
Paralyzer/Hyde - no counterattack or items
That's what I've got so far. Any thoughts on creatures/spells/strategies I've missed? Or ways in which this combo could complement a larger strategy/book?
Perhaps with everyone regenerating, this combo could be well-complemented by some WallTransform/Medusa/Cockatrice/BatteringRam/AcidRain action. I guess one benefit of using these two combos in a single book is that you don't really need "offensive creatures" with super-high ST or critical hit attack abilities; your high-HP(low-ST) creatures are now equally suited for offense or defense.
