I was thinking about interesting ways to encourage our little community to interact more over the LIVE service, and I came up with an interesting idea: a 2v2 tournament with random pairings! We would put all of the gamertags of people willing to participate into a hat (or online randomizer app, if you will), and draw them to determine our teams. Once the teams have been selected, we'll randomly draw pairings to determine the match-ups. The tournament can be round robin or elimination, whichever the majority of participants prefer, and will use the sealed book feature to maintain balance. The winners will get custom forum avatars created by yours truly (I have little to offer but my artistic skills)! Any thoughts? ----------------- Match Details ----------------- Round 1 (semi-finals): Map: Colossuem II Magic Goal: 7000G Rounds: 60 Time Limit: 25s Lands: Random Matches: Best 2 of 3. Round 2 (finals): Map: Colossuem II Magic Goal: 8000G Rounds: 60 Time Limit: 25s Lands: Random Matches: Best 2 of 3. -------------------------------------------------- Tournament Updates: as of 02.26.2008 -------------------------------------------------- Due to complications and scheduling problems, the tournament has been temporarily suspended. Over the next few weeks, I'll review the interest level on the board and potentially re-open this thread/tournament. Sorry for the inconvenience, everyone! P.S. If anyone else wants to take a stab at this, be my guest! Hell, I'd probably even join.

You know you can count me in if my Japanese save file works on the US version of Culdcept, or if I'm extremely lucky and somehow they allow cross region play all of a sudden.

I know three people that are planning on getting the game that do not post on this forum that would be interested in participating. I'll start a tentative list in the initial post to measure interest in the event..
Here's hoping for cross-region play/save game compatibility!

Cross-region play won't matter, KK, since it's Sealed Book format.
I'll have at least one US copy so you can sign me up as well. I also suggest you hold it in a tournament format and not round-robin. Given 1) the matches can be fairly lengthy and 2) most players won't be familiar with the majority of the cards, it'll be quicker to hold it in a bracketed, 1-match format with no loser's bracket (japanese style tourney).
As for rule suggestions, I'd advise:
Map: Colossuem II Magic Goal: 7 or 8000G Rounds: 50-60 Time Limit: 20-25s Lands: Random

I think my wife and I may be interested, although we still have a lot of cards still to get.

TopCat: I'll defer to your judgment here, since you have far more experience with tournament-style play than I do. Thanks for the input! Deunnero: The decks will be blind, as indicated in the first post. I just didn't know the correct terminology at the time. Kuroi Kenshi: With compatibility ruled out, are you still interested? Unfortunately, Evendir and Borderspace are no longer able to participate. Here's the updated list, as of 02.12.08: ******************************* Moptop Kuroi Kenshi (?) notpokey TopCat In2Video DuckyWheel Deunnero Zembar We potentially have 4 teams already, so we can can close registration now or wait for 2 or more teams. Suggestions?

I think 4 teams is good. That's only 3 matches so we can probably do best 2 out of 3. Perhaps 7000G for the semis and 8000G for the finals match?
Kuroi Kenshi will be playing. He's got his US copy, he'll just have to go pick it up this weekend, I think.

I hope I have time this weekend. I'm going to pick it up this weekend even though I don't really have the money too. I'll keep you posted on what the verdict will be for Saturday. I'll call it a 50/50 right now. PS: You don't want me on your team whoever gets me. You will just lose terribly with my help. I'm in DMC4 mode.

So the book I tossed together happened to work well at the time. . . and this coming from a guy who doesn't even have all his cards available and is moving up the top ranks of the leaderboards in one day Doing very well against japanese on a regular basis if not better. But I will be back in the swing of things soon. Everyone here has got me very excited to start playing again. And this 2v2 tourney should be nothing but pure, top notch fun! I don't think who wins is going to matter in the end, because we'll probably be laughing the whole time.

I just tossed the names of the participants into the List Randomizer on www.random.org, and here are the results: ~ There were 8 items in your list. Here they are in random order: 1. Kuroi Kenshi 2. Zembar 3. Deunnero 4. Moptop 5. In2Video 6. DuckyWheel 7. notpokey 8. TopCat Timestamp: 2008-02-13 00:29:02 UTC. ~ I took the liberty of seperating the teams. Amusingly, random.org didn't want to break up the couple of In2Video and DuckyWheel, which leads me to this question: do you guys own two 360s and two copies of the game? Unfortunately, Culdcept Saga only permits one online participant per Xbox. We'll wait for confirmation of Kuroi Kenshi's participation before starting. If you have any concerns about your team, or the tournament in general, feel free to PM me or post in the thread.. This is gonna be fun.
