Hi guys, after playing Culdcept like hundreds and hundreds of times, we finally got the Saga edition just a few days ago.
Worth every penny.
I know there are a lot of ways to play this game, but I just wanted to touch up on some of the things I thought about while playing. Up to now I have played 15 games, all against Rilara. I won 14 of the 15 times and reap the benefits of it.
When you start the game, I was under the impression that you get pretty much the same deck as Rilara; something that is evenly balanced. When my brother played the game first, that is what he got.
But when I played next, I noticed it was fairly strong in green. I got the Dwarf, and Stone Mountain, and a couple of other greens. After having to start again (since Xbox360 does not recognize multiple players unless you create new profiles), I found that the deck was slightly different as well, still with a little bit more of green than anything else.
In fact, one of my friends started playing it today, and he got a decently supplied green deck. Let's just assume it will vary.
The key to doing well in this great game is not to push the story too fast. Take your time and play the same board over again, even several times. If you win, you get 9 cards, if you lose you get 5 cards.
Win or lose, you need the upgrades.
The Mace is fine, but trust me, you will want to upgrade to stronger weapons that do more than 20 damage, and for goodness sakes, get rid of those leather armors!
When I started to play, I set my mind to play as fast as I could on this stage of Rilara. This board is small, so you could finish it in about half an hour. I figured whether I win or lose, if I can play 3 or 4 games, I can get some decent cards.
Why is this necessary? Because I needed to weed out the Giant Rats, the Goblins and other very weak cards. Granted you start the game with that, but to be formidable you have to find better creatures and better items...and spells as well.
For example, as I got finished games, I started to get Chain Mail, which is a +30, whereas Leather Armor was only +20. Then I started to get some Scale Armor, which was +40. As I got those, I could replace the weaker armor with better ones.
The same goes for weapons, spells and creatures. A goblin might be cheap, but it won't win you too many critical battles.
So after 15 games my deck is decent...I am not saying it will be the envy of the Culdcept world, but I am confident I can beat Rilara with more strategy than luck.
As you play, keep that in mind, enjoy the game, whether you finish it in record time or take the time to put together an awesome deck...it's just as much fun as the original Culdcept for the PS2.
Good luck.
