Well, it took over two hours for me to pull this one off, but I finally got the Exiler of Existence medal. In order to get this award, you need to use the Death Gaze card to lower the total number of cards in your story-mood opponent's deck to less than 40. That means, you need to delete at least 10 cards with Death Gaze!
Here are some notes on this medal and some of my recommendations (I am no Culcept Master, but what the heck, this is what worked for me):
First off, there has been some confusion about how Death Gaze works in other forums, so here's how I think this fun card works. If Death Gaze battles another card and destroys it (not just successfully defendes, but actually reduced the opponent's card's health to zero) and Death Gaze itself survives (no mutual annihilations), then there is an 80% chance that the opponent's card will be deleted from his or her deck for the remainder of the current game.
My formula for this medal: I used my trusty all Green deck with 4 Death Gazes (took me some time to get four in my collection), a Healer, a Dark Master, Gooba Qqueen, a Baromitz, 4 Earth Amulets, 4 Earth Shields, 2 Wild Growth Spells, 1 Telegnosis, and then assorted green creatures, some plate armor, prism wands, etc. On Tournament Map number 4. I had the required magical power needed to win level set at 35,000 but when waaaaaay over that (you'll see).
Some key points:
I played against Zaigol mainly because he rarely competes for my green squares and he uses no spells (a key element).
Tournament 4 map is great when you want to be able to successfully avoid crossing the Castle because you haven't met your desired medal-related goal but have more than enough magical power to when the game.
The first half of the game was pretty standard, placing greenies where I could, leveling up and defending a lot. I only played Death Gazes on main pathways that couldn't be avoided. Once I started to win by a significant margin, I set up my own little area on Tournament 4 map where I just kept circling and never bothered going to the Castle. It's between the Western and Easter Forts. In this little area I put down a Dark Master (who gives a 10 point health boost to all greenies), a Healer, a Gooba Queen and a Baromitz.
By this point I had as many creatures as I could on the pathway leading up to and away from the Castle (you'll see why).
Now with everything in place, here's what happens. Evertime I passed Baromitz, I used his territory ability to give me magical power (he is sort of like a mini-mana spell). Everytime I drew Telegnosis (a spell card that lets you have territory access accross the board for one round then gets recycled back into the deck), I would either level up a green land near the Castle or switch a previoudsly placed green creature of mine with a Death Gaze if I had one in my hand. If there was an empty space on the board near the Castle (either because it was always empty, my creature was defeated or Zaigol sold off his land when he couldn't pay the tolls), I used Gooba Queen to place a gooblet (hee hee) on that square, only to switch it with another Death Gaze when I could. If any of my creatures successfully defended but was hurt, I used the Healer's territory ability to remedy that problem (get it? It's kind of a pun).
Cards I prioritzed when I drew them were Earth Shields and Amulets and Wild Growth. Death Gaze is immune to scrolls (I don't know if Zaigol even has any, but this way it wouldn't matter) and my Earth Shields protected the Death Gazes from just about everything else. I tried to level up all the green lands my Death Gazes were on so that they would survive any nasty Counter Amulet attacks (Death Gaze is very vulnerable to this as it's attack strength is 50 and health is only 30) and Earth Shields do not protect against reflected damage. By this time, Zaigol was reaching Magic Depletion about every other turn since he kept having to pay the tolls and most of the lands around the Castle were Death Gazed occupied level 3 to 5 green squares.
I kept a log of how many of Zaigol's creatures I had successfully deleted (and ended up delete 2 extras on my way to the castle) and when I had reached only 39 cards left in Zaigol's deck, I ran for the Castle having reached the game limit for magical power long ago and he ended up fighting with two more Death Gazes before I could cross the finish line!
Funny Events: Like I said this was a loooong game, I reached 90,000 g before I had deleted even 8 cards from Zaigols deck. Also, out of boredome I used Wild Growth and Telegnosis territory ability to change every colored square on the map to green. By the end, after going through my own deck several times in the game I had 14 Death Gazes on the board (it's almost hypnotizing to see all those purple bouncing, oddly-shaped eyeballs on screen) and had reached the 10+ land chain (so the final result was getting 3 medals in one game).
Oh, if you try this way to get the medal, here's a tip, don't level up your Death Gazes near the Caslte to level 5 because Zaigol rarely even tried to invade those. If he had just recovered from Magic Depletion and was sent back to the Caslte and landed on a level 5 Death Gaze with an two thousand plus toll on it, he would just get Magic Depletion again and not bother invading. He seemed much more likely to invade the level 3 and 4 territories. Remember, Death Gaze can only delete a card if it wins in battle.
Oh, you might as well stick in a gnome and/or a toll raising spells like Greed to get the Avaricious Smile medal while you're at it!
