I've started playing Culdcept again (I stopped because I had nothing but lousy cards and not enough time to grind Goligan games to actually build up enough of a collection for strategy), and while it's still a relaxing and fun game overall, there are certain things I wish could be changed:
-Option to skip card battle animations - games would be much faster & easier to fit into a busy schedule. Watching Lizardman shoot arrows at Knight isn't that fun or interesting the 327th time in a row.
-Option to quit mid-game - As far as I can tell, the PS2 version of the game doesn't let you quit a game while you're in the middle of it, other than pressing reset on your PS2. In games with lousy draws and bad die rolls, I end up reaching for the reset button.
-Option to change your avatar later - I accidentally picked one of the lamest ones in the game because I didn't realize it would be permanent (the girl with the witch hat). I've played a bunch of games with this character and have finally started building up a decent collection, but I'm kind of sick of looking at the witch hat girl. Too bad I'm stuck with it. Also, just more avatars in general would be good, but it sounds like Culdcept Saga on Xbox 360 has that part covered.
-More capacity on memory card for stored decks - self-explanatory.
-THE BIG ONE: offline card trading / shopping. Has anyone played the Capcom vs. SNK card battle games for NeoGeo Pocket? Those games have "stores" where you can trade away commons, uncommons, and rares for new cards. The stores were stocked with random cards of each rarity and would restock every 10-15 matches or so. The ratio in the second game was: trade 3 of your commons for the 1 common selling at the store, trade 3 uncommons for the 1 uncommon selling at the store, trade 3 rares for the 1 rare selling at the store. The first game in the series also had an "auction" that let you bid multiple rares for a shot at a super-rare card.
That's may sound "expensive" from a rarity standpoint, but it gave you more control over the cards you have in your deck. For instance, right now, I have one Kelpie and I just got my very first Old Willow. When will I get Kelpies / Old Willows #2, #3, or #4? When the game decides to give them to me from random draw, so I have hours and hours of play ahead of me to see them. (This is why I stopped playing for a while.) In the meantime, most of the rares in my collection are crappy items that are gathering dust because I'll never use them.
