Can't understand something, Help!

Can some please explain to me in detail on how 2 people can play on seperate controllers? I can only seem to get it to play for one person only

Jacob, in Versus Mode after you select a Player character, the game will Reading data, followed by a window that says "Finished loading data". After you press X to pass this screen, a flashing window will say "The player to use [character's name] press the X button". The controller that has its X button pressed will thus be used to control that character. Just don't press X too fast and you should see it. Recently, my friends down the hall brought two more controllers and a multi-tap to try out the game and four of us were able to play, each with a different controller.

Yes, a multi-tap is a must have for 4 player rumbles. It gets a little tiring passing the controller around after 20-30 rounds or so...lol
