What I mean by this is cards that I never seem to be able to put to good use (or that have a very weak or non existant effect when I use them) but that the computer can put to great effect.
Examples include:
Silence Magic Bolt Haunt Drain Magic
Magic Bolt is especially annoying because the A.I. always seems to have two of them pop up in their hand before I reach the castle and/or they land directly on my creature that they just used it on. Hmmm how very convenient!

Well, Silence has been a staple in most of my decks as it slows down my opponents' expansion, especially early on. During the late game, it protects my Kelpies from being invaded. (see them apporaching my Lv.5 Kelpie, cast Silence, cackle) Magic Bolt and it's elder brother, Evil Blast, seems a bit too costly to me. Although a hit can take out their creature on that Lv.5 land, I usually prefer something more flexible like items since the opponent might be packing 30HP+ creatures. Haunt is the reason I absolutely hate Ryvern. It's very annoying. Sometimes I feel I could do better mindlessly mashing at the controller. Using it against the computer doesn't seem to do much. It'd be a lot more useful (ie. broken ) if the caster could controll the victim of the spell. Drain Magic I feel hits us human players hard since it seems that the computer usually throw a lot of money at levelling up lands, spells and whatnot. While human players like to save them for a rainy day. Therefore, we get hit hard since we've got so much cash on our hands, while they feel a slight nick from being so liberal with their cash.

Magic Bolt - I use it as primer right before the awaiting Tempest or Catastrophe. Drain Magic - used right when they pass the Castle, slows them down some, and puts a little in my pocket. Silence - slows them down, especially when they are about to me the Kelpie on its Level 5 plateau. But the ones that I can never get to work for me, Haunt (naturally) and Amber Mosquito. I stopped using Amber Mosquito when I realized that the card should read: "Transforms to Tyrannosaurus for the CPU, or Giant Rat for the Human in battle." I do not recall a single time when this was not the case. As for Haunt, it would have been better if it read "Target Cepter is controlled by caster for two rounds."

I had a recent experience similar to your Amber Mosquito.
I was playing against Morroc and used my Cleric four times against his neutral creatures. Four times out of four her special 'death to neutral creatures' ability didn't work. So basically I'm thinking that her card should read "Works 80% of the time for the CPU, and 20% of the time for the player."
It was probably just bad luck for me, but geez that is some bad luck!

Agree with 100:20 chance of whatever working for the Cepter's Cepter. I have the worst time making scroll attacks work even with a Scroll Critical Hit creature but unless my Cepter is well-prepared, the AIs can always make a scroll attack deadly. Lots of other examples of stuff not going right but I stayed up all night winning the Solitary Soldier and Two-Headed Attack medals and am having trouble remembering what all went wrong - haven't had sleep yet. Got 'em good, though! Used Pickett, Selena, and then plus Mullyn at Quanze (2-on-1) and then Goza 2 ( - the one with Wind and Water territories near the castle). Beat them 42,000 to 6700. 32 medals and counting... Pickett's giving me grief with the cheating getting the medal for using no Spells. OK - here's one: Mullyn Peace'd the same territory not once but three different times the turn right before he landed on it (Dhampir's Level 4-5).

The best I've ever done with Drain Magic is 275g. Haunt seems just plain wasteful because the computer already controls the opponent. (Don't we hate when the haunt discards the cards we've been holding for 20 turns or so???) I only used Silence in a book once, I think, and the AI just use it to level up. Well, Silence has been a staple in most of my decks as it slows down my opponents' expansion, especially early on. During the late game, it protects my Kelpies from being invaded. Remember that you also need to have the card in hand for it to be useful, and if you find your hand maxing out you'll toss spells you can't seem to use. The computer rarely seems to care too much about when it uses the spell, except maybe for dice but I haven't noticed that. But no matter what, it is annoying having spells cast against you but how do you think the CPU feels when you kick its butt most every battle? (rhetorical)
Silence is great whenever, unless they have no creatures in hand. I find magic bolt very useful but you need more than one in your deck. Of course Haunt has little effect on the CPU. If drain magic were cheaper I'd use it.

I can feel your pain with drain magic.
I was going for roaring flame (90000 G victory) And I had Goligan in the Kelpie trap. So Naturally, I had about 80000 G ON HAND and naturally he playes drain magic and I get some 20000 G stolen. I still won but it was irritating.

I hate when Gemmory casts Judgment. It hardly ever backfires, except when she's playing against another CPU. I've used Judgment twice, and both times it hit me.
