Just keep allocating cards until you have enough to beat them. Shouldn't take too long and the practice never hurts. Before long you should be able beat them easily.
Alternatively, you could cheat by using the suspend data option, however, I do not reccomend that option as it takes a lot of the fun out of the game.

Heh, ok, well I'm 0-4 right now, but im getting better cards.
Should I stick to specific colors, or a number of colors?

Until you acquire enough quality cards I suggest either a two color deck or rainbow, early in the game you probably just won't have enough cards to do otherwise. The game is all about trial and error, so you should try to find what works for you.
Good luck.

You know, this reminds me of some of the classic RPG games I have, like Lunar or Sega Cd and others. I learned many years ago that as exciting as the game is, if you push the game too fast, you will end up in a place you cannot compete. It's like going from the 3rd grade to the 12th grade in a year. You have to make the progressions to be able to compete. When I won the first game vs Ryvern, I stayed and fought the old cane many times. Early in the game, you do get a lot of good cards. Of the two, Selena and the bully, Selena is much easier. The thief leader is to me the harder of the two, but he is much more aggressive. He will attack as soon as he can. If a person is agressive, prepare more armor. He does not carry much if any spells, so that might be to your advantage. Selena likes the Christmas colors, red and green. If you play enough, you will notice that she sometimes will not place anything on blue or yellow, even if she could. Cut off her source of fire and forest, and she could be in trouble. There are many other ways to exploit the flaws, but it depends on the cards you have. Best of luck.
