Phew... How frustrating... I was on the second fight at Luthien's Temple in Story Mode (vs Zagol & Ryvern) (goal : 9000G) and lost by the smallest of margins. Both teams were over 9000G avec heading for the fort. Unfortunately Zagol got there first. But which really annoyed me was the final results screen. During the game you don't see the individual scores (only the team ones). So, on the final results screen, I saw that the opponents had grabbed respectively 5400 and 4200G. Nothing unusual. But in my team, Selena only managed to end with 1600...while I had 7500G. Too bad to lose like that... sigh...

I don't pair up with Selene for that reason. She will usually grab and level lands from her deck and then lose them at mid-game. I have never seen anything different happen with her strategy. There is a plus, gaining some of the medals are easier with the afore mentioned idea.

My favorite partner is whirlwind. His yellow deck and my green deck run circles around any other team!

I haven't made any Story characters my ally yet (almost always play solo, or use my AI characters to trade cards with), but Whirlwind sounds like a great partner - I'll have to try that - his Goudas are tough! Think I'll build a special Wind-Earth-Water deck.
Oh, I take that back. I did ally with Selena once (I think I had to for the stage before Promsdale) and she did the stupidest things to 'help' me, like break my protection spells and Triumph with something like a Holy Word 6 when I wanted to land on some territory and kill an opponent. Never again!

...as does Leo, who will ALWAYS cast Blackout on you if you have any negative effect. It can help sometimes, but most of the time it just happens to ruin my Kelpie or Old Willow Trap.
I like to play with Aldha or Pickett, who never get on your way and manage to build nice possession on thein own.

Selena isn't that bad for me. She and I usually win when teamed together against two other AIs. I usaully play with her and Luthien and Selena seems to play with me better than Luthien.

One of the most frustrating moments I've ever had in this game was in the first Ally match, with Selena. She cast Holy Word 3 on me when I was three spaces away from an 800+ toll space. With friends like that...

I don't like Leo after he started squeezing my best items out of my hand when he saw me 'low on cash' and one hop away from the castle. He's done this so many times now that I just don't use him anymore on my side.
Squeeze your own damn cards, Leo!

Heh, just experienced Selena last night.
1. She cast Holy Word 3 to force an enemy onto to here level 3 land defended by a neutral with <10 hp left.
2. Then as the end game was revving up, she casts holy word 6, and I notice one of the villians in 6 away from my big money (and well defended) land. Naturally she puts it on me, forcing me onto an enemy big money land.

Yet another brilliant move by Selena.
In a duel against Mullyn and Gamygin- I used my "Moon Macabre" deck which features a lot of instant death cards: Senility, Wraiths, Death Scroll, etc- Mullyn is a tough opponent to use this against because a lot of her deck is status effect based, so the Senilities will quickly be replaced by Peace, Fog, Vitality and Regeneration. Gamygin actually managed to get out an Old Willow and leveled him to 4, Selena and I stayed on the blue side, but she managed to hit the warp and was coming on fast to the Old Willow, I knew Mullyn had a Regeneration in her hand, and I had a Senility- When Selena was a few spaces away, I cast Senility on the Old Willow- she had a Minotaur in her hand with a Petrify Stone, so I thought it would be a great way to get a Level 4 Red Land for us, what does she do? She casts Fog on the Old Willow (ARGH!)and rolls a 1, only 2 steps away from the Old Willow. Then Mullyn casts Regeneration- and I'm like "DAMNIT!" Through some sort of sick good luck, I draw another Senility. (YEAH BABY!!!) Immediately I re-cast it on the Old Willow- Selena roll a 5 and stops at the Old Willow AND PAYS THE TOLL- having to give up 3 of her lands.
Frickin princess floozy!

Well I gotta give counter story props where props are due..
I had Selena for the fire/cold fight after Leo failed bigtime and she did *OK* enough for me to do my job and we won. I didnt expect much from Leo tho when they did the whole Selena out/Leo in thing.
Well silly me I keep editing books for story mode fights and never change the book in the menu ALL THE TIME. So I really didnt have my good foot forward for the fight.. but I'm like 'well I'll lose, I'll rego, no big' as constantly resetting the game when I do this so much gets old.
I got cramped up a bit with my wrong deck but Leo came up HUGE knocking balbereit and ryvern out almost by his lonesome. I added some zaps and took some spots but it was his levelled yellows that did the work.. mind you he scared me when he put buffs/aided MY lands while discarding defensive items and didn't work on his lvl4-5 lands with hurt creatures..!
But we won right before I thought it might come to a land loss head and I had been prepared to restart, so props to Leo for actually *winning* a match for me, where to that point he had truly *lost* a match for me vs fire/water (ie running right into their highest level lands and I had even paralyzed/injured them and rusted them and still he didnt just fight and take the darn land easily!)
So most of the time you're lucky if it evens out (bigger chains, temple and castle money, but then goofball decisions). But this has been the first and only time so far an AI truly *won* a match for me.

Speaking of AI partners bring you down, I introduced the game to my D&D buddies J.R. and Shawn last friday. I decided to team up with J.R. against Shawn and Saffron (who I regard as one of my more intelligent and thoughtful AI characters). Apparently, she just didn't like Shawn, and she used the Mesmerize card to prove it.
Shortly after her first lap, she brought out the Mesmerize card. I would have bet money that she was going to use it to snatch my Mutation or Wing card and use it on her own territory. Instead, she stole Shawn's own Manna. Let me reiterate. It was the second lap. Saffron spent 100G and a discard (her Decoy) in order to steal her ally's card and get just that 100G back. Dumb.
What's even worse? Towards the end of the game, J.R. put Holy Word 1 on Shawn to force him to land on my Level 5 Green Mold with Vitality. Then Saffron came up with her Mesmerize again and I thought, "Nuts. She's going to abscond with my Peace and put it on the Green Mold." But no! She used it to (and you probably won't believe this) steal Shawn's Haste, which I had forgotten he had and would have clearly also saved him from my Green Mold. So a speedy Saffron (who has a Friendliness rating of 7 in her sliders) had the priviledge of watching her partner (whom she just flippantly screwed over) get completely backrupted and then I waltzed into the castle with just enough money to win.
Man. I'm actually surprised that she hit me with her Mind Seeker instead of Shawn. I am taking Mesmerize away from her and then she's going into the cooler for a while.
