While teaching my neighabor how to play this game and a few other times I have mentioned that leveling up lands then putting the same color (element) card (creature) will increase the defence. He has forgotten this many many times. The only reason I won on a few games was because of this. Should I tell him again, or wait untill he figures it out? I had to figure it out on my own (that manual was useless).

It's more fun when both sides enjoy the game; if the person loses too much, they will get frustrated and may not play again. Competition drives us to want to always win, but the fairness of the game dictates us to make sure the person we play knows the rules, so there is no excuse to your win. Is it really a good win if the opponent didn't give you his or her best shot?

Perhaps you would find content more to your liking in the "Members Only" area. That's what it's there for!

After a few friendly warnings, if he forgets a rule, he's on his own. But it's your duty as a friend and a teacher to review his performance afterward and help him correct mistakes.
Just think of it like this. Even if he does get really good and start wiping the tar with you, if you helped him out, he'll be more inclined to trade with you, helping you fill out your collection. :-)

You could just nag your neighbor in the beginning of every single one of your matches with that tidbit of knowledge.
Eventually after the 20th game he'll tell you to shut the fuck up, he gets it already.
Also the cards have borders around them and a symbol in the corner in case he doesn't know what creature goes where.
I learned alot of things on my own. In general it took me about 4 months to "get" the game system (symbols, engrish, shrines, and all the cards). If I expected another to try and get it on their own I never would've been able to play a tough Vs. match. Because I taught 3 people the basics and the game was cheap to find, the training spread like a virus. After all, there's no better way to ensure a lesson learned than having them try to teach another!
