I had been using the altar because its so big and makes for a fun match. But I was wondering what maps do most of you guys use for human matches.

I'm more fond of smaller maps, Dombwood being one of my favourites. I like a lot of the Extra Maps, as well. I find the game more exciting on a smaller map, unless I'm playing with 4 people, then a larger map is required. The smaller maps simply get too crowded..

I generally teach the game on the Dunnan map and then just play on any map.
I always reduce the G needed to minimum and play on sudden death. That way we can get in more matches. Plus, if a player is bankrupted they usually feel hopeless- so sudden death just ends the game right there- without prolonging the agony.

however, sudden death kinda sucks in 3 or 4 player FFAs, because the 2nd place guy might be REALLY close to taking first, but if the last place guy loses, the game ends right there.
4 player FFA takes frickin forever, especially if anyone is slightly new to the game, and takes forever to think about their turns. 2v2 is really fun in my experience.
as for MAPS, i like some of the ones where lands have different "values", not in terms of G, but in terms of how often you have to cross them. Thors Hammer is cool, but the laps are deceptively long, so you're always poor. dunnan and malthessburg are good for 1v1, with the occasional dombwood thrown in for good measure. i can't wait to get the last 5 maps... i'm at 48 medals.

I like Temple of the Medium for FFA. It's decently sized, it has a temple, there's a lot of land variance, and there are many forts, so territory effects are used often.
