Just curious: Do you guys pay any attention to scrolls, either using them or adding cards to defend against them? I never include 'em in decks - how often is 30 damage gonna kill someone, even ignoring land effects? - and never worry about defense against them for the same reason. Also, it seems the computer never uses them - I can't remember the last time I saw a scroll attack, other than the one Sorcerer does when an item isn't used. Even with a Scroll Critical Hit guy, you're only looking at 45 damage, which doesn't seem like much for a two card combo.
Have you guys found any differently? Do you find them useful to use, or dangerous to face? It seems like a ton of cards refer to them, yet they're a total non-factor in the game.

Well first off, Nuclear Fusion does 50 damage. A Ninja with Nuclear Fusion is merciless. He does 75 base damage and ignores land effects. He can take down a Colossus easy.
There are other scrolls that do more damage too. Hellfire is one of them if I'm not mistaken. It's also a devastating attack against defensive monsters.
Scrolls also ignore certain defenses like a Decoy's reflect. A Counter Amulet is useless against a scroll.
I don't use scrolls often, but there are many times I wish I had one. Despite this, most of my decks use at least Nuclear Fusion.

Ah -- I've never even seen a Nuclear Fusion, but that does sound pretty formidable.

Scrolls (ST=30) seems of little use? I never saw a Cpu using them.

Scrolls (ST=30) do seem to be of limited use. Still, it's good enough to take down a decoy.
I don't know what computer you're playing against, but the computer characters use scrolls on me all the time. They always seem to have just the right scroll at the just the right time too.... Hmm.....
Hellblaze was the scroll I wanted to mention earlier. It does 60 base damage to defensive monsters like Wall of Stone.
Hellblaze and Nuclear Fusion are probably the two most useful scrolls.

I put at least 2 scrolls in every book. They deal with creatures/items with nuetralize/reflect ability. They are also great to have when landing on high level territories since they ignore land effects.

Scrolls, scrolls, scrolls........what do we know about scrolls? The most standout feature about them is that they will ignore almost EVERY HP boost, that isnt natural. They also fly right past some of the most effective defensive items in the game (unless its petrify stone, or a Magus Mirror). Hell, some people even stated that they are salvation for landing on those high-tolled lands, but there are many creatures out there that have enough "natural HP" to withstand even a armor-piercing, land bonus-ignoring attack. Now there are many a cepter out there who will laugh hysterically at me, when i say that THE most useful scroll in the game, is a scroll that deals NO damage to your enemy whatsoever (not even 1 HP).......
Ladies and Gentlemen, this piece of holy paper i am referring to is the Sleep Scroll. This scroll is a GREAT defense against those lands that are just levelled up so high, that when u land on them, u'll need every relative in your family AND a loan from the bank to pay it off. This scroll was made for just that purpose, so you dont have to make all of those phone calls ;-).
So....what exactly does this scroll do? When used, it takes a creature and sends it off into dreamland (funny thing is, the creature can STILL execute an attack even after being snoozed). Even though sleeping monsters CAN guard their land, they CANT collect toll fees......so a toll, regardless of its weight, equals 0. (yes, a sleeped monster with a 2500+ toll fee....gets ABSOLUTELY NOTHING...after the fight.)
So heres the 411....when landing on an crazy-high lvled land, your 1st concern is having a creature that can actually use the damn thing. many creatures lack the scroll ability (cant read? maybe?), but i cant imagine a human being in that class *cough*gladiator*cough*. Creatures w/ first strike ability or those with HIGH HP values are grand, as they'll ensure the scroll is used before the battle is over. Now your set, regardless of the battle outcome, you wont be paying anything. The status will remain on that monster if it is undisturbed too.
a few tips:
1) do NOT use this on Gremlin or Thief; Gremlin will destroy it, whereas the Theif will steal it (but im sure u can find otha means to take out a 40hp neutral creature)
2) If you have the scroll in hand, ALWAYS make sure u have a creature who can read it (no scroll limit).
sorry for da long text, but just wanted to let u guys kno that not all scrolls suck...

Unspoken, you are 100% correct with that statement. I use Cait Sith myself, and he is, to me, a nice addition to the team. When leveled up, he makes defeating him quite the handful, becuase the creatures that are strong enough to take em, are immediately halted by those dreaded words - "Neutralization of Creatures 40ST or higher". Creatures below that kind of muscle, tend to use a CRAZY-High-ST-Boosting Weapon, such as a Masamune or Lance of Odin. I advise against the Storm Causer though, as with its HP-draining curse, most creatures are layin face down before they even get to wield the damn thing. I would smile when i see an opponent land on him n decline the invite to fight, giving me a hefty fee. BUT......that same smile would transform into a frown, accompanied by tears, when i see a scroll-possessing cepter invade his turf.
Thanks for remiding me of that "flaw"....now i gotta go change it up.

hehe, yeah. I'd taken out my culdcept to play bully recently and couldn't recheck my decks, but, yeah a few water element scrolls is quite nice for taking down a cait sith. And scrolls are really the only way to effectivly deal with him.

Am I wrong in saying that a Fire Shield used by a Cait Sith still blocks a scroll?

I don't believe Fire Shield stops a scroll. Most items don't. Thats why I use Petrify Stone, because at 80 HP, no scroll can kill you.

You are correct, sir. No Elemental Shield stops a scroll. Only things that particularly mention that they reflect a scroll can do so. In Culdcept Saga there is a Living Mirror in respect to all other living weapons in Culdcept II. Petrify Stone is a great Scroll stopper. The only thing you have to be careful of is an enemy that can attack twice. Cerberus and Tetrarm come to mind. That can hurt!

Double scroll attack is possible when a doppelganger accompanied by scroll invades the territory which a cerberus (or pushpull) guard.
