Hi there, I just finished going 200 rounds with Zagol to try to learn something, and I think I got it. This is about the card "Changling" (Changes 2 cards to goblin). When I played it earlier I was under the understanding that the Changling randomly changes CREATURE cards, but not I don't think so. I also though that once the opponent (Zagol) goes broke, he gets a full compliment of the deck, meaning the cards I changed into goblins would change back; I am not so sure about that either. Let me explain, and maybe we can get some feedback from some of the others out there:
I played Zagol using 4 Changling cards, which meant I could potentially change 8 cards a round into goblins. You all know about Zagol; he plays very aggressive and used a lot of items, like chain mail, leather mail, bandit glove, long sword, morning star, ect.
Well, all was going ok until about round 100 or so. I was playing a brass idol (allows 2 cards per turn) and a marble idol (allows no duplicate cards to be played on the board). At that time I really hadn't kept up with the cards, so I pulled out a piece of paper and started writing down exactly what creatures Zagol was using. I was looking to see what my Changling cards were doing to him. From round 100 to 124 he had 20 goblins, and either one or 2 of his other creatures except the Hellhound, which he had 3 of. The total creatures he had in that deck was 41. That started to tell me something. That was 41 CREATURE cards, meaning it is possible that Changling also works on other cards to, not just creatures.
From rounds 125 to 149 (keep in mind we are drawing 2 cards per round with the brass idol), the goblin count rose to 25, and he had two of the following: Fire Giants, Roadrunners, Hellhounds, Minotaurs, Levelers, Dragonflies and Giant Rattlers. He had one of the following: Thief, Spectre and Beserker. That made a total of 42 creature cards. His statues had disappeared from his deck entirely!
From rounds 150-174 he had 27 goblins. I might have made a counting error because I wrote down 3 Hellhounds. but he had two of the following:Roadrunners, Levelers, Dragonflies, Fire Giants and Minotaurs. He had one of the following: Spectre, Cyclops, Giant Rattler, and Thief. That made a total of 44 creature cards. It has to be noted here that with 44 creature cards out of 50 in the deck, Zagol was clearly losing item cards to goblins.
From rounds 175-199 the goblin nation grew to 30. There were still 3 Hellhounds, but only 2 each of the following: Fire Giant and Minotaurs. The following had one each: Thief, Cyclops, Roadrunner, Leveler, Spectre, Dragonfly and Giant Rattler. Still 44 creature cards, meaning Zagol only had 6 item cards.
On the last deck before I called it quits the number of goblins rose again to 34. There were 2 hellhounds, 2 Minotaurs and 2 Fire Giants. There was one Leveler, one Dragonfly, one Giant Rattler, one Roadrunner and one Cyclops...a total of 45 creature cards. The Spectre was wiped off the deck.
I believe if I kept playing, eventually Zagol would have had a total deck of goblins. With me using 4 Changlings per deck, and now with the idea that any card can be changed into a goblin, I think I would have eventually have changed the entire deck into goblins. Too bad there is no medal for that, but maybe some of you want to keep the results in mind if you should get into a long battle with a cepter. Might come in handy.
