Between slaving over our books and battling it out to test our theories, we at the Institute like to relax by coming up with meaningless but entertaining (to us at least) questions about Culdcept. Thought it might be fun to share some with all two of our readers, so here comes the first Culdscience Challenge! Here's how it works: each challenge lasts 7 days, at the end of which the answer/explanation will be revealed. The first person to PM myself or ExMortis with the solution will be awarded a shiny new "medal", lovingly crafted by our artisans at the Institute (for more information on our Art programs, check pages 37-42 of the enrollment manual). Anyone else who provides the correct answer will also be announced. If two people wish to collaborate, that is fine, just make sure you are both mentioned in the e-mail. Here's the first challenge:
What is the maximum possible amount of g an Amazon could steal from an opponent on round 30 of a battle at Dunnan? How is that possible?
If you have any questions about the challenge, post them here. You may discuss possible solutions publicly, but keep in mind that the first correct PM wins. This contest ends midnight on 01/29/04. Good luck!

IMPORTANT! I'm sorry and I really hate to do this, but I have to edit the question slightly. When I was typing the challenge up, the forum was actually changing (LordPenquin was changing the name of the forum), and so my original post got lost. When I retyped it, I left out one very important thing. It's a 4-player game.
I've received several responses, and one of them would have been the winner if it was a 2-player game (how many players isn't directly stated in the original post), but it IS a 4-player game. Again, sorry, but keep at it everyone. At this rate someone will have the correct answer very soon.

Sorry about that. Next time I'll be more careful when changing things.

It's no problem, you couldn't have known I was submitting a post at that exact moment, it was just bad luck. Anyway, the correction was made quickly so there's still a full week left. I'm just glad people appear to be enjoying the contest so far.

Well, it's an hour early but I'm going to go ahead and announce the winner and answer, because I want to go to bed, and I doubt there will be any last-minute responses. Without further delay, the winner is....armadi! He had the correct answer within the first day, after a couple of attempts. There were a couple of people who had incorrect answers. And what is the right answer? I'll just copy armadi's response, since he worded it pretty well: "The player (who plays the Amazon), plays Fly every turn and goes last. One opponent plays Holy Word X on the player every turn. One opponent plays Dimension Door on the player each turn and it just happens to place the player in the best spot possible (either directly in front of the fort if it hasn't been passed or directly in front of the castle if the fort has been passed). The last opponent plays Revival or Lightcraft as often as necessary (at least once every 4 turns) to ensure that the above cards can always be played. This will allow the player to do a double lap every other turn. So the player should get 45 laps in 30 turns. The Amazon will take 920 G. " Here is armadi's prize, a one-of-a-kind medal made by our hard-working artisans here at the Culdscience Institute (otherwise known as ExMortis). Starship Enterprise Medal of Amazon, duchess of robbers. Those who warp space in order to complete the heist will be shown evidence. Maximum amount stolen: 920g Congratulations to armadi for winning the first Culdscience Challenge!! I'll post the next challenge sometime tomorrow, so be on the lookout. Who will win the next challenge?

I just want to thank Ben-Ra for coming up with such a fun question- it's gotta be hard work. Keep 'em coming. Edit: I love the text for the medal I received. It is straight from the game (i.e. it is just as bad as the crappy translations of the game).
