St. Louis is a reasonable distance from Lawrence, KS. Omaha is about the same distance. All three of these areas have Cepters. (see rpretz on gamefaqs for Omaha)
So what would everyone (Penquin, others) think about getting together at one location or another for a day of casual Cepting, or dare I say it, a tournament of some kind?
It would be rad to see if we could get some kind of support from NEC USA for such a thing.
Post any thoughts.

So hey...who all is interested in this? As Mortis said, Lawrence (where we are) seems to be a decent point between Omaha and STL. If anyone is interested in a get-together, post up and we can work something out. We've got a game club at the college so we can get room to have a tournament or something. Let's make this stuff happen! Talkin' theories online is fun and all (or else I'm insane), but playing people is even better...

Here's something to think about..... The Gen Con gaming convention, August 19-22, 2004, in Indianapolis. - www.gencon.com/indyhome.aspx?file=indyI can see it now - Perhaps NEC would be interested in promoting their game in this country, sponsoring a tournament. Of course, a sponsor or contributor would have to supply equipment, but it would sure be sweet...

I can see it now, rows of monitors and PS2s with us standing there with our memory cards clutched to our chests, muttering ""Myyyyyyy Preciousssssss!!!!"

GenCon is pretty dope, I've been four times, all years ago when I did a lot of role-playing. Of course, going to GenCon is hella expensive...it's not a bad idea, but I think a less-expensive starting point would be a better idea.

An anime convention might not be too bad to try for either. I dunno what conventions are nearby for you guys, though...for me, the only two within three-ish hours are Anime Central (Rosemont, IL) and Anime Iowa (Des Moines, IA...used to be in Cedar Rapids, IA). There's probably a convention or two in the St. Louis area as well. Anyway, anime conventions might cater quite well to these sorta things...just an idea.

The thing about anime cons (or GenCon, for that matter) is that if a person spent all the money and time to go to it, they might rather spend their time doing convention stuff instead of spending hours on a Culdcept tourney. However, if it was a Culdcept-only get-together, there wouldn't be any such conflicts.

I am willing to host with in the Minneapolis area. Cost of travel on all of your end; and a neutral hotel on my own. My home is not really furnished to tourney standards. However, I don't think a hotel is either, yet room would not be an issue in that case. Maybe, another suggestion....

However, if it was a Culdcept-only get-together, there wouldn't be any such conflicts. That's the good thing about anime/gaming conventions...there's other stuff to do. Regardless of how much I love the game, I wouldn't want to play Culdcept for three days straight...I wouldn't mind, however, playing it for like 4 or 5 hours on Friday, the same on Saturday, and maybe a game on Sunday before leaving for home. The expenses of it wouldn't be that bad, either. I'm pretty sure that, if you ask nicely at a con like ACen (which has open TVs there for use in the Console Gaming Room), they might reserve a couple TVs for Culdcept tourney/organized-gaming use. And, at roughly 40 bucks for three days of pratically-whatever-the-heck-you-want, it ain't bad...I mostly go for the video gaming and the dancing (and to meet/hang out with people). Last year, I spent all of my time in four places...the video game room, the dance, the lobby, and the consuite (free snacks/drinks). And it doesn't cost much to house yourself for these if you know people...30-40 bucks for a hotel if you split with a few people. It's worked well for other tournaments (SCII, DDR, etc.)...all in all, it ain't bad. Just my thoughts again, though.

There's a bottled drink company that sponsors LAN parties but unfortunately, I can't recall the brand name, offhand - something like Bolt or Blast? It comes in a blue bottle, and is good for staying awake for a couple of days, I think. If anyone knows the name, go to the company website and check out the sponsorship details. A Midwest tourney is a fabulous idea - I'm in. Just remembered the name of the drink - it's Bawls. Here's the gaming website: www.bawlsgaming.com/St. Louis is a reasonable distance from Lawrence, KS. I live in the St. Louis area, and although I probably wouldn't be able to find us a good place to play, I can give up some sleep space. I have done so before for out of state Smash Bro's players coming to a local tourney.
