I know this is kinda wimpy, but after so many games of Culdcept, and if playing against certain enemies, I think a good one to have is the Bronze Idol.
For those newer to the game, Bronze Idol, when placed, allows all members to get 2 cards per turn. Now granted it is very week, and almost any magical attack will dust it off the board, but in cases like Zagol, who does not use magic, this actually helped me many a fight.
But to use it, you also have to have a reason to use it. For example, my current deck has one, but also some changlings, counter amulets, prismatic wands adn a marble idol, as well as a silence. All these do work together in the plan that I have, which is sped up with the Bronze Idol.
In the case of Zagol, my plan is to keep him quiet and get the bronze idol out. If so, then he will be quickly discarding cards. The fact that I am drawing twice as fast gives me a faster chance to get defensive cards too, because Zagol is very aggressive.
But the other reason is to speed up my getting Changlings. If I can hit him with enough of those, by the second or third round he will have several goblins...then I can place the marble idol.
The Marble Idol restricts only 1 type of creature on the board at a time..so if Zagol has, let's say 15 goblins, then it makes it harder for him to place a creature if his cards are slowly changing into goblins.
So there you have it, the Bronze Idol. It's not my favorite card, but it has helped me many times. With the right enemy, it can be a real boon.
