For being 40/40, Dhampir has some *very* nice abilities tacked onto him. Namely, immunity from forest creatures, and instant hit death (40% chance) to forest creatures.
Although he can get torn apart by blast spells or a variety of monsters, against my friend and his pure forest deck, Dhampir was a godsend.
He had been playing for about two weeks before I picked up Culdcept, and had settled comfortably into a Zombie Dragon/Dark Master/Gargoyle/T'ao t'ieh/Coati deck that would thoroughly tear the ass out of anything I could offer.
Then I got Dhampir.
Playing him on the first square of his land and just moving him forward, I quickly cut a gaping swath through his territories. Even if he failed to crack something like Dark Master's obsecene HP and failed at the instant kill, they could do no damage to him in return and he would just move back into his land, to try again the next turn.
*Very* useful and underrated for an early game, I think, or even just against someone who has a heavily green-oriented deck!
