With all this talk of power cards like Kelpie and Old Willow, I'm surprised no one is talking about the one card that can humiliate all of them: Barrow Wight!
This card has one me many a close game.
Example: Yesterday I was playing Kazatega. I had some early success in building up a red chain, but in the latter part of the game the die completely turned against me. Whirlwind had a L4 Hurricane placed on the north side of the map (Quetzalcoatl was in play), and I landed on it. Lacking any creatures strong enough to withstand its First Attack, I paid the toll and swore loudly.
Once I pass the Castle, I draw into my Barrow Wight and a Boomerang. And lo and behold, I once again land on the Hurricane. This time I played the Wight and the Boomerang. The Wight survives, the Hurricane goes to Sleep, I pay no toll, and give the CPU the finger.
But that's not all. The very next turn I land on Whirlwind's L5 Quetzalcoatl. Out comes the Wight and the Boomerang, and Quetzie goes out like a light.
I landed on that Hurricane two more times that game, but thanks to the Sleep enchantment I paid no toll. All told, Barrow Wight saved me about 3000 G that game.
In short: Barrow Wight ownz.

I definitely agree - 'sleep' is a very very helpful ability.
I should note, however, that despite the way it sounds 'sleep' does not prevent an enemy from attacking. So if you play a Barrow Wight and want to keep it in your deck, make sure you use a defensive item if you are against a powerful enemy. (fyi 'paralyze' is the effect that prevents an enemy from attacking)
I cannot tell you how many times my Barrow Wight has bit the dust because I forgot that it needs to withstand the enemy's counterattack.

It should also be pointed out that more often than not, a Barrow Wight is a dandy solution to a L5 OW or Kelpie. I just keep a nice defensive item around and wait until I get parked on a toll I'd rather not or cannot pay. An opponent will fix the problem as soon as possible, but as long as I can work a draw, it's just a matter of recycling the Wight.
