My old friend, Old Willow has won me MANY a game. Once I get that bad boy planted in a red zone, it's only a matter of time until I start raking in the cash.

Yes - it's a power card if ever there was one. I'd even rate it higher than Kelpie due to the fact that it can't be shot (Evil Blasted) strait off the board.

Actually, I think Omiyasoft was pretty smart when it came to balancing Kelpie and Old Will. Sure, OW can't be shot, but he has a double LR, and he's a Defense creature (despite card text, Kelpie is NOT one). So it's a balance. Kelpie is easier to get out, but a little more vulnerable to direct damage. If you know the opponent doesn't have any (or EB in particular), Kelpie gets a lot better.
Of course, in 3 or 4 person (not AI) games, putting either of them out just puts a giant target on you (and OW/Kelpie). Everybody knows they can get raped by it so they're gonna do everything they can, even combine efforts, to stop you. Sometimes they can be more trouble than they're worth, but it depends on the opponents...

In Free-For-All multiplayer games I use Old Willow as bait. He's only 40 to put down, and has decent HP. Then I watch everyone freak out and do everything they can to kill him, burning all kinds of cards and G to do so. Meanwhile, I'm levelling up the land my Gas Cloud is on, dropping some Growth Bodies on him, and waiting to draw Quicksand.
;D
I used to try Dullness/Invisibility with Old Willow/Kelpie, but that just made *me* a big target for all kinds of nasty enchantments.

Old Willow is definetly the best card in my deck right now. Just plop him on a non-fire land, level him up to five and drop Upheaval on his ass. I do not like to risk forcing a stop on him since I have only one, until he is all he can be. The computer controlled players will walk over him all day long if he is on a main path. They will not even attempt to fight him even if they have the means to.
I believe Old Willow is better than Kelpie because of his higher MHP. Yeah Kelpie does more damage, but I'm using old willow to dry out people's magic supplies not kill their creatures directly.
I never knew Cepters could run out out of magic until I used this card. Now I can sit back watch cepters sell off their land (I cannot stop laughing at this point as the board clears of their creatures) and go basically start the game over again. I guess that is kinda what owning a bank would be like.

I generally have some other creature on a fire land until it's up to level 5 (usually a Minotaur or Gladiator). Once the land hits 5, I swap out for an Old Willow.

I love Old Willow too. In fact I have two in my deck. I don't know many people with scroll attack cards so when I get one down I use a Growth Body and a Regeration and they're basically unstoppable because I always have a Flame Sheild or a Gaseous Form on hand when I have an Old Willow out.
Boggarts are nice too if you have Quicksand and a Flame Sheild/Gaseous Form. You have to make sure you can Land Protect them first though.
Kelphie's nice too but like others have said you really wouldn't use it to attack so with that theory Old Willow is better. That and I just don't like water creatures.

If you Land Protect Boggart you can't Quicksand it.

I wrote that so long ago, but you're right. I guess I meant to say that if you don't have Quicksand, Land Protect is the way to go and make sure you have armor just in case your opponent uses scrolls.

Plant OW in a red zone, reach level 5 and cast GREED ;D! Keep a gaseous form in your hand just in case (they don't attempt a fight most of the time ) and it's a matter of 2 more laps before you are declared winner no matter who you're facing (not to mention about 2 medals for that 1: Drying out, 2: Achieved more than 3000 in a single toll, 3:maybe knighthood (against Zeneth))

By far my Favorite Card. I'm sure if there were actual people to play against around here I'd be not such a big fan, but the computer AI just doesn't know how to deal with it. Drop one on each side of the castle and continue going about whatever you need to do for that medal or just drop one and level it up then the game's over.
The only real annoying thing I've found is Najaran with a Vorpal Sword wielding Gremlin. I'll get impatient and drop Old Willow on a LV3 territory and sadly it'll die.

Ah, Old Willow. A great card against the computer, an average card against an experinced player.
Sure the whole your forced to stop and take down this bad boy or pay the toll is nice, but it can be gotten around. There are ways to protect it, but then again, there are even more ways around it.
Defensive creature means you have items and spells that will specifically target it.
I use to be a huge fan of Kelpe Old Williow, and then, I started experimenting, and while they are great, I found most of the time, they were targets for everything until they were gone, or people were finding everything under the sun to avoid it, so I quit playing them to mix things up, and haven't really used them since.
Like I said at the top. Lovely card to play against the computer, but beware it against slightly seasoned players.

I use two Old Willow and two Kelpie in my main deck, which really centers around them, so I Land Protect them, and Keep Talisman or Gaseous Form, and Diamond Armour (for scrolls.) that usually results in a pretty close to an unbeatable tree, but in a three or four for all, ganging up to run me out of items. Well I can see it happening. So against AI, it IS invincable, but against a good player it will only be hard to kill. It'll get you some money regardless.

2 Old Willows + Upheaval + Growth + Lightcraft
End result? Just blocking the enemy in until they can barely set foot outside of the castle without taking a hit.
