** First I apologize for the double post but I realized I put this originally in the wrong location so here goes...
I know this is a totally newbie question but I can't seem to get a creature that has the "can be used as an item" ability as an item during combat offense of defense.
Curiosly I can use items just fine. During combat I try to highlight the creature that can be used as an item but it is dimmed out like it can't be used.
The computer AI uses creatures as items all the time against me an it's really getting frustrating.
What am I doing wrong?
Also, some creatures have the "territory" ability... 1) If the creature has a color, does it HAVE TO be on that color to have the territory ability accessible... 2) Do I have to physically pass the creature then access "territory ability" or can I use it any time?

Also, some creatures have the "territory" ability... 1) If the creature has a color, does it HAVE TO be on that color to have the territory ability accessible... 2) Do I have to physically pass the creature then access "territory ability" or can I use it any time? The "use creature as an item" thing is due to poor translation. The critter with that text is the one that can receive the backup. For instance, if you're invading with woodfolk, attack the enemy critter using your woodfolk, then back up with something else. Same for defense--your woodfolk needs to be already placed on a territory, if that gets invaded, you can then back up the woodfolk. This is why support creatures are good for defense. "Territory" can only be used when you can use the "territory" option (press the controller down a few times, it's next to Map and Options). You can use territory only if you're on or near a square you control, or if you land on a castle/fort. Leveling up land is a territory command. Next time, instead of leveling up the land, you can go to "creature abilities." Creature color doesn't determine where critters can go, but some critters have a land restriction (which is indicated by a color icon with a red X through it), which means you can't play that critter on that particular land. Also, some critters have a land requirement next to the cost. For instance if you have a critter with a cost of 70G + RED, that means you have to control at least one red square already before you can place this critter.

In addition to support creatures, there are two creatures who can be used just like an item. I'm unsure of the exact names, but one is a living shield and one is a living spear. These two can be used in the same way as any creature or any item. I believe the shield is 0/30 and the spear is 20/20.
