I was wondering if any has encountered this odd problem with the card. In the description it says it stops single use spells like Evil Blast, Magic Bolt, and Banishing Ray. When I played Zeneth and Leo and had the idol out however it just got zapped like a mosquito. Anyone care to explain why? Maybe I am misunderstanding something in the card description, but from what I know it should stop those spells, no?.

Granite Idol will stop spells with Lightning Bolt abilities, as opposed to spells with effect abilities (The bubble symbol). Not only will Magic Bolt not work with the idol in play, but spells like Shatter and Rust will not either, spells that effect one player. I don't recall any damage spells being effect-based, mostly because they aren't effects. Any spell like Holy Word's will still work through the Granite Idol. I'm not sure what else to tell you, but thats how the idol works from my experiances.

My problem is that when I had the idol in play, the computer characters were able to use Magic Bolt and Banishing Ray when the description said that spells with the "Lit Bolt" icon were not able to be used. I understand that "bubble" effects and other spells won't be halted, but the one set of spells I expected it to stop was not. Just wondering if anyone else has enountered this anomaly. Or if I am misunderstanding something.

Yeah, that was answered in a nother thread; I just read it the otehr day. Granite Idol only stops lightning spells targeting cepters. If they target creatures, they are not stopped.

Targetting cepters, of course! It was mentioned that stuff like Rust is stopped, now I understand completely. Thanks. I was just really hoping to use this card to stop opponents who like spamming direct dmg spells. Looks like Clay Idol and Life Force may be the best way to reduce Evil Blast's and Magic Bolt's effectiveness. Unless anyone else has better ideas on stopping people who like to spam bolts.

I'm a fan of untargetable creatures myself, there's a bunch
also I think spells like mass phantasm might do what you want, and some creatures can cast land protect, etc

You know- I finally figured the mystery of this idol out about a month ago and completely forgot to update my IDOL post- Oh well, Im sure people can find it here.
