Right now, I have something over seven game hours, and Laharl is only at Level 6. Don't worry about it. I've clocked over 200 hours and my Laharl is only level 50. Then again, that's because I've had so much fun in the Item World that I haven't finished the first Episode yet. I've been through the entire game with my friend though twice. I hope you like anime-ish humor, this game's full of it. I haven't played it lately though because I've been addicted to Culdcept.

My Laharl is aroud 56 with the rest really close behind. I am on the 10th episode and things are really getting rough lol. Last night i visited the item world of an item that you get from one of your demon friends.....first time i had to use gency on the first 10 floors lol. By the fifth floor mobs had 1000's of hp and crazy attacks. I intend to buy some candy and stuff and go back in today to get my revenge!

I haven't played it lately though because I've been addicted to Culdcept. Well, I'm now starting to get that same " I'm addicted to it" feeling about Disgaea. Today (so far), I have managed to create two new characters (a Cleric and a Brawler), and I'm now feeling as though I have more tasks to accomplish and more options to consider in terms of trying to "combine" enemies and attempting to level-up my new characters. I've only created two so far, because I'm going for the 50-Mana "Average" characters, since the next upgrade in character creation jumps up to 200 Mana. I suppose my next steps will be to create Mages to "chain" off my Cleric (who is a Vassal of Laharl), and to create a Warrior to "chain" off my Brawler (who is a Vassal of Etna) so that I can then create a Rogue, and eventually, a Thief. Again, if anyone would care to comment on this devious plan of mine, please feel free to jump in!

I'm 99% certain that a "Rouge" is an advanced form of a "Theif" Garek, not two seperate classes.
The Cleric mentoring your mages is a great idea though. I didn't do that in my game and I'm regretting it because it's getting harder and harder to level up my Cleric (which by the way is a Sage).
May I suggest that you make sure Laharl learns all the heling spells as soon as possible and make sure you level them up. They will become invaluable to you later in the game when magic is much more effective than healing items.

They will become invaluable to you later in the game when magic is much more effective than healing items. You know, it's very interesting that you mention this. When I first created my Cleric, on the very next time I attempted a map, Laharl had "Heal" ability. I even had him use it once! That ability has since disappeared, which has me wondering... Is it possible that Laharl shouldn't have had that ability available to him so early (before my Cleric even had a chance to use it herself), or does it sound as though I've hit a "glitch" in the game? Regarding the Thief, I guess that you're right. I was checking out a GameFAQs "Job Class guide" which says that a "Rogue at level 6 is Required" in order to obtain a Thief. Even though it may be the same class of character, I'll still need to go in and create a new "Thief" character, right?

I think I answered one of my two questions above....
According to the "Pupil Benefits" guide, a Master gains the ability to use a skill of their Pupil when the Master and the Pupil are standing on adjacent map squares. So, I guess I just got "lucky" earlier when I observed that Laharl could Heal, as he must have been standing on a square adjacent to his Pupil/Cleric at the time.
I just thought I'd clarify that, so no one else spent any time trying to figure it out....

Here's some further clarification Garek:
1. Yes, your mentor has to be next to his pupil to use his pupil's spells. After you use the spell enough to raise it one level, the mentor will permanently learn the spell.
2. You don't have to create another character after another class appears. Just transmigrate your character to the higher class.

Just transmigrate your character to the higher class. Ah, yes. Yet another one of those confusing topics with which I must become familiar. I'm just hoping that I can find some information as to when (in terms of the Level of the original character) it is worthwhile to Transmigrate...

The first transmigration usually is not worth much(Special skill and weapon levels are all that remain intact). But due to stored levels that accumulate, the bonus points can sky rocket. Most say level 200 is the soonest to transmigrate, but the more often it is done the more stored levels.
Characters of mine are in high levels (like Laharl at 2030). My ronin (named Coffi) transmigrated to an absolue killing machine.

Here's how I transmigrate my characters:
1. For story character like Laharl, Etna, etc. I will get to level 100 and tranmigrate. From there I will do it at double the levels that I transmigrated from there, so that would 200, 400, 800 and so on.
2. For generic characters I will transmigrate them to a new higher class whenever they pop up. I won't use the above method until they become their highest class.

For generic characters I will transmigrate them to a new higher class whenever they pop up. OK... So if I understand you correctly, you're saying that I should transmigrate my Cleric - who is currently only at about Level 7 - to a Priest, because that new class has recently appeared for me? Other than weighty questions like that, I've spent the last several hours traveling through the first 10 floors of a couple of Items, just to see how that went for me. Thankfully, I was successful on both of my attempts, even though a couple of my characters didn't make it through the 10th floor without getting "whacked". I chose rather low-level items to go into, since the levels of my characters aren't all that high yet (I think they range from Laharl at 9 to my lowest at around 5 or so). But, I just wanted to see what it was like, since the maps in the Item World are so "random". Now I have to figure out the whole "Item Specialists" thing, along with Transmigration....

OK... So if I understand you correctly, you're saying that I should transmigrate my Cleric - who is currently only at about Level 7 - to a Priest, because that new class has recently appeared for me? Personally, I would do so for the reasons I has in my last post. I believe the higher classes have better stat growth so it would be advisable to transmigrate to higher classes as soon as possible. I would at least try to have enough mana to get an "average" or better transmigration though. Higher classes also have better weapon specialties. For example, the their class's highest class has a "C" mastery for the gun. When you reach the highest class (I think it's the sixth one), then use the 100, 200, 400 transmigration techinique. Speaking of the theif, I'd suggest getting one soon. They are invaluable in the Item World. Theives have the highest throwing range and have the ability to steal items. As you go deeper into the item world, enemies will have great equipment to steal. Another great feature in the Item World are the great Geo Panel bonus puzzles. If you got any other questions on transmigration or just Disgaea in general, I'll be happy to answer them for you. You're like the second person I've tutored for Disgaea. I'll probably start playing it again after I get the four remaining magic cards I need in Culdcept. Oh, one last thing. For quick leveling, take the first couple of promotion exams at the Assembly. After the first three, I think you can get to level five. It's a great place for transmigrated characters to level up. Just make sure to save after every exam.

There is no way his cleric is going to get to rank 3 without a mage/skull under him/her.
I say find your own niche... Mine is Item World.

Thanks again for all the suggestions! Right now, I've just started Episode 2, "Frozen River", and I completed "Forsaken Land" (Chapter 1) on my first attempt.
Actually, I just hit on the "Promotion Exams" last night, and as of this evening, I've taken a couple of characters through the second exam, and another character or two through the first. I've been holding off on creating new characters, but I guess it's time that I:
- Transmigrate my Cleric to a Priest, provided that I have enough Mana to get an Average (or better) character; and - Create another Mage for my Cleric/Fire Mage chain.
Before I can create a Thief, I think that I need to have both a Warrior and a Brawler at Level 10, and I don't quite have that accomplished yet.
I also completed the first ten floors of two different Items, just to do something different. Like I said, I now have to look at combining and moving Specialists, and all that sort of thing....
Again, thanks for all the tips, and feel free to add anything that you think might be interesting!!

I've been to the Item World so many times and gotten so many specialists, I've created a sheild that gives awesome stat gains. My two sages (which are higher forms of clerics) were able to complete the 6th exam. They don't have mages under them. That and they only use staves.
