I don't understand how the cards that cost symbols to use work? Is it the current cost of the symbol or an actual symbol? I have an ELF and it seems like I have enough money including the cost of a symbol and I still cant use it. If I buy an actual symbol it seem like it doesn't work that way either. Can someone explain what it means when a card cost for example:
50+Yellow Symbol

I made that mistake too at the beginning. ;D
Let's have a look at your example again :
"50 + Yellow" means that your card costs 50G to use and needs you to own a yellow square. If you don't have any creature on a yellow square yet, you won't be able to use your "50 + yellow" card.
So this has nothing to do with symbols. Quite confusing indeed...
(I hope you'll understand what I've written, since English isn't my first language ^^)

Thanks Maytee. I don't think I ever would have thought of that.

Ignis is right; I did not understand it for awhile, but after a bit I saw how it works. I call them, "conditional" cards, where you have to meet a condition to play them. For example, I like Chimera cards, but to play them I have to occupy a red land before I can play it. The Yeti also requires you to own a blue land before you can try to play it. Some cards require you to have 2 lands; one I can remember is some old tree (a red card). I liked the idea that it can stop anyone at that spot, but the cost to bring it out was too much for me. But you get the idea...

If you find yourself enjoyin' lots of these cards, which have conditions such as owning multiple lands of that colour, or needing a sacrifice... but you have trouble meeting the conditions... just throw a couple of gold idols into the hand with those cards.
When you play a gold idol on the board, no conditions must be met to place a creature... so chaos reigns as far as being able to place powerful creatures wherever you'd like, right off the bat.
This has allowed me to set up multiple level 5 old willows within very few rounds on several occassions when I've landed a gold idol in my hand right off the bat.
