Hi fellow Culdcept lovers! I have to document this before I forget because I was not able to save the game due to the fact that I had 2 saved replays and they would not let me save another. So I gotta recount this as soon as I can for someone to see. I wanted to share how I got two medals at the same time. The one I was shooting for was the medal for when you collect over 90,000 and the secondary one I got was for collecting tolls over 20 times. Maybe I can share with you how I did it.
First off, it took some time but once the mechanics were in place it was easy. The victim was Zagol, and this is based on his upgraded cards after you finish the tournment. As you know, Zagol is very aggressive, but his track is not long to play so I decided to try him. I wanted to see if I could trick him into a loop of paying high tolls. To do it I first loaded my deck with 4 Old Willows, then supported the red creature with Chimeras, Minotaurs and a Boggart. I was kinda hoping the Boggart would come in handy, but it didn't.
I also added a lot of yellow creatures like Knights, Harpys, Nikes and such. I added my LeoKnight as well. Zagol is very physical, so I needed strength to combat his. To protect my creatures, especially my Old Willows, I grabbed 4 Counter Amulets, 4 Prismatic Wands, 2 Gaseous Forms, and the Rainbow Piece. It is worth mentioning that I did have a few other creatures but they were only there for support for the main creatures I had. I also had a few weapons, not much, and I had spells to hit Zagol should he place any creatures, like Magic Bolt, Binding Mist and Evil Blast. I also had 2 Holy Word X to get me around fast and a Barricade to get an extra 30% on tolls. Add in a Despair to kick 2 of his cards out and 2 Changlings to turn 2 of his cards into Goblins and I had my deck.
The key was to get one of my Old Willows on the red at the start, keep at least one Counter Amulet to help him, and build around it. With 4 Old Willows I was sure to get on soon. At first it seemed to work ok, but Zagol's agressiveness took out my first 2 Old Willows. But I still had enough firepower to hold him at bay with his creatures and was able to exchange around until I had an Old Willow in a spot he had to go. Once I did, I leveled him quickly and the fun began.
I discovered however that Prismatic wands won't work with Old Willow, so I had to make sure I had that amulet ready. As far as I was concerened, there was only a couple of ways he could beat my creatures; Zagol could get his Thief with a weapon, which was bad news for most creatures I had. If he got a strong creature with that bracelet that doubles the strength, I was also in trouble (if I had no counter amulet). As long as I could avoid that, I was ok.
Once I got the Old Willow in two places, one to the right of the castle on the red strip and one down near the bottom, I had him where I wanted him. Instead of going to the castle, I kept running laps on the smaller square. I didn't need any money because Zagol would provide it for me. As he kept hitting my Old Willow and unable to beat it, I got more and more money, and started covering all the squares on the bottom circle, until I had every space. I then used the money to turn them red, then switched to red creatures. Every piece of land I had was worth about 2200, and Zagol could not stop me. In addition, I kept using the Changling to change 2 cards into Goblins, so as we ran out of cards, he was slowly increasing with Goblin cards. We went about 150 turns as I worked him slowly about 2200 per hit. He would run into Old Willow, try to fight, but since OW was about 90 pts, he could not beat me. Add in my insurance of Counter Amulets and it was just a matter of time. I even had time to exchange all my reds into Old Willows, and out of the available 10 spaces, I think I had 9 Old Willows. After hitting 90,000, I decided to go ahead and go to the castle. I had about 50,000 to spend, as I headed to the castle, and ended out with about 99,500.
I ended the game and got the medal I was shooting for, the one for getting 90,000, but also got one for collecting tolls 20 times, with the official total being 42. Hey, I don't know if you can duplicate it since every player's cards might be different, but it can be done. It it was quite fun slapping Zagol around like that. Too bad I could not save the replay. Hope that helps you guys.
