Questions about medals and human players

I recently purchased Culdcept (and a wise purchase it was) and have a group of 3 friends that get together regularly. The thing is, they made me promise that I don't build up my deck when they're not there... understandable. However, I'd like to unlock some of the other maps and as of yet, we haven't earned any medals. If I'm reading the FAQs and instructions correctly, you can ONLY get medals when playing against Story (which I assume means AI, only not custom AI) characters. Does this mean that it is not possible to get medals in a 4 human match? And if so, if I create a second character for myself, and start medal hunting with him, can I only play the unlocked maps if said second character is one of the participants? They wouldn't be too happy about that. Sorry if this is confusing... any advice would be greatly appreciated!

The only Medals you can get while playing with other people are the ones with collecting requirements, such as having 500 cards total. If you want get medals without building up your character, you can create a second character to earn medals with, then load that character as an observer to get access to any maps or story characters that character has unlocked.
