I am unsure where to put this inquiry but since it kind of has something to do with this medal I thought I would try here. Excuse me if I am a bit gabby, but I am a bit excited that I have a new card to play with

I've been missing two cards for a while now, both creature cards, and since it was taking me so long to get them (I'm over 1900 hundred cards now
) I kind of put the Scholar of Monsters medal in the back of mind, figuring it would probably come on it's own eventually. Just a few minutes ago it did, but not in the way I expected.
I was under the impression that to obtain this medal, one would have to collect every creature card and that, to get Soltis, one would have to collect all the cards (except for the ones you can earn to get medals). I just got both and I am still missing one water creature card. The reason as to why is picking at my brain. Was I wrong about how to get these two things? Or was it something else?
One of my roomates suggested that I might have traded the card away at one point, and that the game may keep track of all the cards you may have had. I don't think that's right though as I never trade away any card unless I have more than 4 of them. Besides, the card I am missing is the Alga Sphere and I have never even seen one before.
It also been suggested that maybe the extra cards you get by earning medals do count, and rather than counting the N,S,R cards it counts how many different cards you have, my Leoknight putting me at the number I needed. I somehow doubt this to, unless I was wrong about how you earn the medal and Soltis.
Or perhaps it was just some random glitch in the game? (This particular answer kind of makes me feel a tad guilty, even though it wouldn't be any fault of mine)
