I've been so busy I have not checked the forum in a while, but I'll chime in with Topcat. We would love to play 2v2 online with anyone. An alliance game is something we have not been able to indulge in yet. As for the online play, I agree with TC. If you want to get any sort of experience against non-AI players you will need hours of play against multiple opponents through different map sets and deck ideas. It's best to try this from the beginning. This isn't directed at anyone in particular but just a keen observation as we've played many games on and off line competitively. Developing with the game community is a huge advantage for strategy and mechanics. 4p FFA and 3p FFA seem to be the norm. I do not often see a 1v1 map online, at least not with the Japanese. For all I know America's Live players can and will play differently. I've already seen from others play styles on the board that it's a completely different mentality. Not saying it's all bad, but just not my style or personal touch. I think my final comment would have to be this: There is nothing more gratifying and fun than playing a game like Culdcept (considering all it's ups and downs) with a handful of friends over Live, laughing up every mishap and good/bad move together. That goes for any game, though. I'll try and be around more often and to anyone on Live, I'll try and be online more again.

Do they allow for 2v2 with any live/guest combos at all? Or if something is deemed fishy/unfair about that (?) live/guest vs live/guest?

Unfortunately, local guests cannot join online matches in Culdcept Saga. From the interview linked in the original post of this thread:
"In order to make the gameplay fair for all people, the game does not feature local player + online match support. The issue which we anticipated is that some players may want to increase their odds of winning online by playing with more than one in-game characters. This would make the game unfair to those who are playing on their own, as it would be possible for the offending player to collude and tip the scales of balance in their favor. Of course, not all players will break the rules like this to win, but we want to deter this kind of activity as much as possible."
I'm fortunate enough to own 2 360s due to my fiance having one of her own before we moved in together, so we pre-ordered 2 copies of the game..

question: does anybody know if there is any bonus content for pre-ordering like there was for the JAP release?

From what I understand there might be a mini-guide with pre-orders. Usually this translates as something small and worthless that isn't a real pre-order incentive.

That's a shame and thus my point - If you're going to do that, let 1+guest play *VS* 1+guest And/or leave that style to unranked only Heck in general they should help eachother in what I painted, lol. No real surprise, it's the typical (and imo ridiculous) move Not a show stopper, but my wife and I won't be able to play my sister and her husband, even in a player unranked match.

Just to confirm for everyone: I spoke with the manager at the game store I know and he already set aside a Culdcept Mini-guide for me; so if anyone was interested it IS a pre-order bonus.

Thanks for the confirmation Kuroi, although they didn't say anything about a pre-order bonus when I reserved my copy a few weeks ago. I hope I get it.

For any pre-order bonus, (whether they state to have it or not) as a company, Gamestop/Eb Games send a bunch of the pre-order material based on the amount of orders. So they should have enough to fill most if not all pre-orders. Just mention the mini-guide and you should get one when you pick it up regardless.

I placed my pre-order at GameStop yesterday (less than one week prior to release), and mentioned the mini-guide during that process. The person handling my order said that their store hadn't gotten any such material in, and that he wasn't specifically aware of anything like that being released for Culdcept Saga. However, he also said that if anything like that comes in when the game arrives, they "usually" set aside copies for people who pre-ordered. Uncertainty - Just another reason (along with the lack of a price match policy) that I hate shopping at GameStop. No offense intended to anyone on the forum who might be associated with them, but I avoid GameStop like the plague unless I have few or no other choices...

Yes, I know the distrust and disgust you must feel with that company. It's well warranted, I assure you. As for the guide, the manager I spoke with had called me up and set one aside for me when I made that last post. That store happened to have them already, but some stores do get them in their initial shipment of the game. Let me know if you do not get yours and I will see if I can grab a few extra from the place I know. They often have extras of pre-order material.

We don't have Gamestop up here in Canada, but we do have EB Games, and I have had terrible pre-order experiences with them in the past. From running out of pre-order gifts before I received mine to not getting them at all, it's all happened to me at EB. Unfortunately, they are typically the only retailer that will get pre-order gifts at all, so I have little choice but suffer through their service. I was fortunate enough to get an Eternal Sonata faceplate, so here's hoping that I luck out again with Culdcept Saga..

The "Strategy Guide" was uploaded by someone on the GameFAQs forum. Unless you are OCD about having everything Culdcept related, it really isn't anything worthwhile. It's really just a basic instruction booklet. You can download it here: www.megaupload.com/?d=BWDEKJ8N(this is just a "free" item, so I don't think there should be a problem with posting this link).
