The Sybmbol value ties directly into the value of the land in which you have a symbol. For instance, lets say you use a Coin of Piety, win the battle and get 10 red symbols. The symobl value of that red land will begin to increase when creatures are placed to create chains, the symbol values will sky rocket if each of those red lands are further levelled up (either you or an opponent can control the land- ownership does not impact the symbol value in any way other than the lap bonus).
