I love to see which games are the best ever to some peeps. Plus it gives me a reason to buy new games that i havent played before. The games can be on any console or arcade. Please give a short description of the game as well. Ill start 10. Contra 3 Alien Wars (snes) This game is prob the most action packed shooter of all times. 9. Disgaea (ps2) Best strag game ever made hands down. You can lvl your character to 9999. Almost infinite relay value. 8. Super Mario All Stars (snes) The older marios still have some of the best gameplay of ANY platformer. 7. Everquest Online Adventures (ps2) I spent a whole year playing this game. I never played a mmorg before so i was pretty addicted. Just in the last month have I started to not play it much anymore, and thats only because my chartacter is about max lvl 6. WWE Smackdown 4 ps2 I'm a wrestling fan and this game is a wrestling's fans dream come true. Nuff said! 5. Prince of Persia (xbox) The graffix and control in this game are the best I have ever seen...Ever! Rent it to be amazed. 4. Metroid Prime (gcube) The only reason imo to have a gamecube. Much more then a first person shooter..its an experience! 3 Super Metroid (snes) Can you tell I'm a huge metroid fan? I love the story/level design very much in these games and that includes the gameboy games. 2. Culdcept (ps2) Best board/card game ever! Nuff said And now my #1 is..... Castlevania SOTN (ps one) This was the fist castlevania to have level design similar to metroid and to this day it is the best playstation one game i have ever played. The music is the best in a game ever. I even bought the cd. Its to bad that the new one doesnt even come close to this gem

Dual purpose post! I'll throw together my own list and ask a question about the Haven. Penquin: What's the difference between Haven and Off Topic? Haven is more cozy and exclusive?
I'm gonna cop out for now and not number these, but it's 10. Maybe I'll edit later.
Culdcept (PS2) - Yeah. Guilty Gear XX (PS2/Arcade) - The best 2D fighter ever, and one of the only popular ones that doesn't boil down to non-stop poking/abuse of a single glitch/minimum of competitive characters at high level play. Music, graphics, characters, gameplay, all unique and awesome. Symphony of the Night (PS1) - I wouldn't rank it real high simply because it's way too easy, but it's still great to play. So much to do, looks and sounds and plays great. Super Dodgeball (NES) - I love it because it plays so fast and loose, something no one's been able to recapture in the recent remakes (Nijiro Dodgeball, SDB Advance). River City Ransom (NES) - Probably the best beat 'em up ever. Solid basics on top of RPG-type character growth. Galaga (Arcade) - Big fan of vertical shooters, and although Space Invaders technically did it first, Galaga was first to get it right. Guardian Heroes (Saturn) - Doesn't beat out RCR for "best beat 'em up" because it can get a *little* tedious near the end if you build your characters wrong to handle the enemy's mounting HP. That is to say, if you didn't pick Randy and go all INT. Branching paths, character growth, frantic action, good music. Legend of Zelda (NES) - Aside from Link to the Past, THEY HAVE NEVER EVEN COME CLOSE TO DOING IT RIGHT AGAIN. Actraiser (SNES) - I love to take a day off and just beat this at least once a year. God simulation with platform action scenes, great score by Yuzo Koshiro.. in the worst move ever, they took the simulation part out of the sequel. Herzog Zwei (Genesis) - Very early realtime strategy. Unlike most other in the genre, you take an active role on the battlefield as a jet that transforms into a robot, fighting enemy units and ferrying your own around.
TampaCepter: I agree with you on Metroid Prime. I've come SO CLOSE to selling off my gamecube more than once, and Metroid Prime is the only thing that stops me. It's not even top 10, though :P

Consider The Haven as being an exclusive club, with a fire giant as the rope guy. No membership, no entrance. Other than that, it's merely an off topic area for members.

I won't go into any specific order either, but these are my faves:
Final Fantasy Tactics
Advance Wars 1/2
Tetris
Culdcept
Hot Shots Golf
Monster Rancher
Worms
DDR (arcade)
Grand Theft Auto 3/Vice City
Addams Family Pinball (arcade)
Why does it seem all the best are cult hits or under the pop radar?

Hey all. First off, I'm an rpg gamer. As such, alot of the games on this list are going to be rpgs. Also, I've played alot of games, so this list is no where near my complete 'favorite games' list. Also, for me, a game series is very important. So for the most part, I'm going to list the series of games. This is because in my opinion, if you want to get the full experience out of the games, you need to play them all.
#10: Culdcept I like Culdcept alot, but I haven't been playing long enough for it to climb to the top of my list. Also, Story is really important in games for me. And the Story in Culdcept isn't its strong point. Still, a game that combines CCG with 'Monopoly', and is easy enough for my Fiancee to play with me, is definaly worth putting on my list.
#9: Halo (Xbox Version) I really like Halo. I think it's one of the best FPS out there. And definaly the best party game.
#8: Myth Series. Very cool games. Alittle hard at times, but the story was definaly worth it. Also, it was the first Bungie game, and as such, the physics engines(i.e., heads flying everywhere), was very cool
#7:Ultima Online I played this game for almost a year and a half, until I got bored of it (most of my friends leaving helped). I had alot of fun playing with some of my friends from Meridian 59.
#6 Suikoden Series Good rpgs series. I like direct sequals, and how the various titles are connected to each other.
#5: Meridan 59 The first online rpg, and imho, the best. The community factor, and knowing everyone who played on your server really did alot of the game.
#4:Wing Commander Series Best space sims I've ever played. Good gameplay, great story.
#3:Half-Life and TFC mod I really liked Half-life, and I loved TFC (pre-1.5 patch). TFC was alot of fun before they changed the mechanics.
#2:Final Fantasy Series(FF4,6,8,and T) I love the Final Fantasies. But those are the ones that stick out the most in my mind. Also, I thought the plot for Tactics and FF8 were very well done. FFT and Xenogears are very close.
#1: Xenogears. Amazing game. Most complex plot ever. I had to replay the game in order to understand it. The only con I can think of is that the story takes abit to build into, but once you get past the the 'lull' period, it's just an amazing plot.
There you have it. Can you tell I like Rpgs? Also, Although I like Xenosaga, in my mind I will not link it to Xenogears unless when they get to episode 6 in the saga, it is very similar to Xenogears. Otherwise, it is an entirely different series in my mind.)

OK, ten games that had the most impact on me (in no particular order): Archon (pc) - hope Wrath Unleashed truns out to be a good game. Everquest (pc) - sucked away a serious number of hours Civ and Civ 2 (pc) - revolutionary games Wizardry I (pc) - amazing at the time. Star Control III (pc) Master of Magic (pc) Chrono Cross (ps) - best PS1 game ever. Fire Pro Wrestling G (ps) - only import game I've ever owned. Makes me smile thinking about all the time spent creating wrestlers (and making friends CAWs bleed like stuck pigs - you could pull a fork out of your trunks and use it on them!). honorable mentions: Cudlcept (ps2)- well on it's way to cracking the list. Castelvania SOTN (ps) - almost makes the list Ultima VI (pc) - graphically stunning (great slime!) Resident Evil (ps) - first game I played on my brand spanking new playstation (late at night of course). Wolfenstein/Doom (pc) - ahh memories of a networked dorm Diablo (pc) - ahh memories of a networked house with a bunch of friends Command & Conquer (pc) - see above. Baldur's Gate Series (pc) - finally somebody did D&D right on the pc Warlords II (pc) - you could use the editor to create your own units! Looking above I don't have 10 in my top ten, so I would probably move C&C up there and then maybe Diablo. Of course both of those games benefit from coming out when I was renting a big house with a bunch of friends and we had all our computers networked. Great memories of hearing friends howling in anguish in the other rooms . There are probably a bunch that I've forgotten as well (SSI gold box D&D games, SimCity, and more ).

Xenogears. If you want to see how a real story is told, play this game. Better plot than almost every book out there. FF6. Wonderfully magical character development. Starcraft. Have you seen a classic that takes hold of nations? =)

In no particular order:
* Culdcept [ps2] [cliche, but easy to get into, hard to master] * Final Fantasy Tactics [ps] * Heroes of Might and Magic III: The Shadow of Death [you could play for a quick 30 minute random map, or weeks on a campaign. Awesome turn-based strategy.] * Rock and Roll Racing [Sega Gen] * Diablo 2/D2: LoD [pc] [This game defines addictive] * Streets of Rage 2 [Sega Gen] * Can I say the Final Fantasy series? VII, VIII, IX, X, they're all different, and none are perfect, but they all have so much to offer. [Those are the only ones I've played, except for one old one on the NES, don't remember much about it, but that it was very fun] * Carmageddon [PC]--Another one that is good for a quick pick'up game. This was GTA before GTA. * Skies of Arcadia [Dreamcast]--Had a few annoying points, but for story and sheer 'feeling' you got, nothing I've played beat this one. * Shining Force [Gen] This got me into 'turn based strategy', and recent console gaming as a whole, and as such, holds a fond place in my memory. Plus, it's just fun. And Tao's cute in the swimsuit ; )
