I haven't progressed through story mode more yet (getting some cards after struggling to get where I am now) but that Luthien vs Ryvern vs Me battle took me a lot of times to win and when I did, it was a LONG match.
I hate Ryvern. I really hate him.
I lost to Zagol a few times before winning against him too. I thought Salena was going to be a problem as she had the early momentum, but I managed to come from behind.

My current problem has been Luthien and Ryvern. I unlocked all the cards by cheating in hopes of beating them with better decks, and currently, I'm like 0 for 30 + attempts. Nothing works. None of the decks listed here, none of the decks I've built, nothing. I have found more often than not, that those two avoid your territories, and always seem to land on their own, or the castle/forts. The closest I have come, I was 4 spaces from winning, and some how Ryvern rolled two 8 with a fight, landed on the castle and got a HUGE payout to win, and I still had more than him.
Any advice or good decks that people know work against them, because at this point, I'm desperate.

Are Old Willow and Gouda good deck-friends of yours??

Nope, at least, not that I'm aware of.
The last deck I used was a Blue Deck, which was like 23 creatures, 6 items, and the rest spells. It worked good, until I got stuck for 3 turns on a 1000+ toll space. I hit it, Luthein holy word 0s me, I'm forced to stay, then she haunts me, my character casts holy word 0 on himself. Luthien wins.
I'm really close to just tossing the game out the window

I think that you need to make better use of your Gouda and/or Old Willow cards. Since they will stop your opponent on your square if they're placed properly, they are extremely powerful creatures when used in the right way. Get them down, hike the tolls on those squares, and be ready with an extra item or two when one of your opponents approaches them.
Give it a shot, and let us know how things turn out!!

I've been trying stuff like that, or Kelpie's and Walls of lce Leveled all the way up, though they always seem to have what they need to kill it when they land on it. A wall of ice with 120 HP dies because they have the stuff they need to kill it. Its frightenign watching them do this stuff. The other day, the one that really didn't make sense was Ryvern using the item that steals an item, and it wasn't even in his hand. he did that two me twice. I think I'm not destined to win that battle.

The first story mode characters to give me any trouble have been Zeneth and Whirlwind/Ryvern. I trampled Zeneth into the ground, and got my Knight medal for beating him by over 5000 the first go at him... but now, I can't seem to repeat victory in any way, shape or form.
Also, I'm 0/4 against Whirlwind and Ryvern... and have only managed to eek out 2nd place 3 of the times. I haven't sat down and tried to come up with a deck specifically for that battle, though, so that's likely what I'll try next.

Finally managed to take it to those two (Whirlwind/Ryvern) by lucking out and setting up a level 4 and level 5 Old Willow at each end of the "must-travel" pathway on either side of the castle. Instead of going to the castle, the two of them just circled outside of tree-alley, until they had no money in their pockets...
I just levelled my land, and took over theirs until victory hit... they ended up with 3 laps each, I won with 11. Phew. Only took 5 shots at it. :/
Also lucked out and got my 200HP medal usin' the LeoKnight... very fun card.

It appears we are in a strong agreement about ole Zeneth. It is hard to beat, but the good thing about this stage is after the tournament, all the other fields are open if you need to gather more cards. I have been playing Selena to get some additional cards for my deck, hopefully some cards that I can use against Zeneth. Strange to say because I have over 1500 cards, and still need more.

Need help with Zeneth, if anyone has some pointers. I changed a deck to all-restrictionless creature cards with decent HP that can use most or all weapons and items to deal with such a small board (Dunnan): Minotaur, Wendigo, Spitting Cobra, Dwarf, Centaur, Wall of Ice - doubles of most, except Wall. Have Kris x2, Cross Bow x2, Sword of the Falcon, Spike Shield x2, Plate Mail x2, Prismatic Wand, Black Orb, Gremlin Amulet x2, The Hand x2, Vestment. Added Mana x4, Paralysis x4, Regeneration x1, Land Protection x2, Growth Body x2, Evil Blast, Magic Bolt x3, Shatter x4, Changling, Banishing Ray. Zeneth counters everything I attempt, both offensively and defensively. Where is the flaw in this strategy - or is it just a matter of getting the cards dealt right? Shattering and protecting doesn't seem to work all that well. Also tried using untargetable creatures and the Sprite but that doesn't seem to work, either because he just Magic Bolts her before I can Land-Protect her. And so on...really frustrating opponent (actually, I'm even more aggressive than he is). Requesting advice, please. What's your best practice for defeating Zeneth on the Dunnan stage? Did you build your deck to be just like his, or what? Much appreciated! The biggest problem I had (in the distant past) was with Zagol in Dombwood (Forest of the Thieves). It took me three or four attempts before I could beat him, and that might have been because I went to Dombwood directly after winning my first match in Dunnan (the first map), instead of taking the path to Malthessburg (against Selena). Now, my difficulty is in beating Zeneth, the Cepter that has replaced Goligan on the Story-mode Dunnan map. I've tried him five or six times, and I've only beaten him twice. Interestingly enough, having played several dozen matches since those early Culdcept days, I went back to try Zagol in Dombwood, and he was a pushover. I guess that the card selection in my deck has improved since then...

The easiest way to beat him I found was to control him. Load up on holy word spells and use cards that take away his mana. Then build up an Old Willow or Kelpie and punish him. Try to attack him more then he attacks you and you should prevail.

I gave up and started on another campaign but I'll give that shot. Sounds like controlling his every move will work. Thanks! The easiest way to beat him I found was to control him. early in the game - some tough work vs the rabbit and the 2nd oracle ryvern/rabbit - they've won both times in my couple tries, think I need to deck tweak oracle/leo - as above, this is more maddening as I tend to get caught in the warp area, plan to create a deck with real 'holy word' support to get the heck out of there before that.. first leo was a pain in the butt, and as other writers eluded too, I had to wait on zagol before fighting the kings daughter - seemed I needed some cards as well a note on my play tho - I didnt realize you could keep fighting the same spots/gain cards until I was already hittiting the rabbit/2nd oracle bout it so far.. so no show stoppers, but some fights are making me streamline/create alternate decks I don't have any of the aforementioned cool cards yet you're all throwing around CKaz

Yeah, my hardest was Ryver Luthien, I won by luck. I was in second to Ryvern (luthien had gone bankrupt several times) and we were simply in a footrace to the castle.
The stategy that I think works the absolute best is Kelpie/Old Willow coupled with a gaseous form. Get the strategically placed level 5 lands with Kelpie/Old Willow and then load up on all the best defense you can muster. Use 4 gaseous forms, some holy grails, diamond armours, and plate mails.
