I recently tried my hand at getting the medal for reducing the opponents deck to under 40 by using the Death Gaze. The first time I tried it I made a few mistakes, so I went back and fine tuned my deck. I took out all my yellows and put in 3 death clouds(20 D to yellow creatures). I used the Reflect Amulets (4) some Plate Mails (2) Earth Shields (2), Wind Shields (2) and a few other things for defense. I loaded my deck with green creatures, the feature piece being the Death Gaze...all 4 of them. I kept my LeoKnight and a couple of other neutral creatures also added 3 magic bolts, 2 Evil Blasts and a few Binding Mists.
The target was Zagol, which was why I got rid of yellows and added Death Clouds. I was going to play him until I got as close to 6000 as I could , and then in stead of going to the castle to win, I would stay on the bottom of the board, going in circles. If I had leveled my creatures well enough it would be a matter of time before Zagol starts to hit them, and I could wear him out. At the same time, I was slowly taking every piece of land I could in the bottom circle. The idea was first to take the land, then change it into green, then level it up, and finally, exchange for a Death Gaze. If it worked, after the deck runs out and I get a fresh deck I could continue to add Death gazes until the entire bottom area was littered with Death Gazes. The only places I could not place any creature was the temples (2 spots) and one spot I kept alone for the brass idol I had placed. I did not want to move it because it kept me getting 2 cards per turn, which increased my chances of getting a defensive card. For me to make this work, I had to make sure I had defensive cards, knowing how aggressive Zagol was.
Once everything was in place, and I had high dollar areas with Death Gazes, it was just a matter of time. I broke Zagol several times, and after over 120 rounds, I had taken out 13 of his creatures. I won the medal, but I wondered how far I could take it. So I tried again, with the intent to see how many cards I could take out his deck.
This is where it got kinda interesting. I forgot to mention I also had 4 Changling cards (turns 2 random creatures into goblins). I kept up with the creatures I was taking out, and had counted up to 21 when I noticed something...it wasn't adding up.
Two things I noticed. First, if I am using 4 Changling spells per deck, and we cycled through several times (up to 150 rounds) then technically all his creatures should have been goblins by now, or at least nearly all. However, he still had several creatures that were not changed. I think this might be because the spell picks two random creatures to turn into goblins...but it can indeed pick a goblin creature to turn into a goblin...after all, the creatures picks are at random. So my Changling spell might not have been as effective as I would have liked. After over 150 rounds, surely Zagol should have had a bunch of goblins in his deck.
The other thing was that I think (and correct me if I am wrong) that if a player goes broke and starts over, he gets the full compliment of cards, that being 50. If my Death Gazes took out 21 of his cards, then Zagol should have had 29 left. Considering that he has a lot of items, and none of those would have been lost, maybe half or more of those cards would have been items. He should have had hand full of weapons and armor and not much more creatures. Yet this did not seem to be the case. I really think that if a player goes broke and starts over, he gets the full compliment of cards back. BUT if they have been changed by Changling, they stay as they are. So if I changed 15 creatures into goblins, when he gets his deck back, those goblins would still be there....I think.
At any rate, when I played the second time, I gave up after taking about 21 creatures out and figured they were not going to let him play with less than a certain amount. Ironically, I got a medal for having a creature do 200+ damage (my Leoknight). AND because it was my 25th medal, I got two cards (Astral Queen and Dragon Helm). HOW COOL IS THAT!
