Setting you own rules

I'm sure this is a n00b question, but I'm having trouble with it ....

I set up custom rules (trying to make a short 3000G match) and then I load my rule at VS screen. When we then go to a VS match ...I am not able to select the G total that I set on the rule, it is determined by the map instead.

I know Im making some dumb mistake, but I cant figure it out!

I don't believe it's you. I tried creating custom rules with the lowest possible turn/gold limit for super-fast card earning, but regardless of what you set in the rules, the per-map minimums seem to be unbreakable.

Odd that you can turn the gold down as low as 1000.
